For anyone confused about the process to update via memory card, see the bottom on this post: https://briansmith.com/sony-releases-a7-iv-firmware-update-5-00/ Lens technology is more of the limiting factor than the camera. DSLR lenses rely on older-generation rotational stepping motos that are slower than the XD linear motors used in Sony E-mount lenses I believe Think Tank product support could offer a more accurate answer to that question than anyone on a forum.... A fullrame 18mm lens is still an 18mm lens in crop mode. The angle of view is simply less in crop mode. It's got nothing to do with native. Just needs contacts on the lens mount to communicate with the camera. All modern Tamron AF lenses have this. Leave Steadyshot on AUTO. AUTO works fine with any lens that has lens contacts on the mount which includes Tamron. Leave it there and forget it. Because the 1.5 crop factor in each direction is just an approximation... You want to divide full frame resolution by 2.30 to calculate APS-C crop resolution. If you plan to put a top-of-the-line full frame GM lens on an extremely dated crop-sensor camera, firmware updates should not be your first concern. The AI Processor alone was worth the upgrade. Much higher focus accuracy. Can you apply the profile BEFORE merging? You need a flash commander for wireless flash connection. There is no internal wireless connection. This post explains the process of updating to Sony a7R V firmware 3.00 via SD card . It won't change. Lossless RAW has a max FPS of 20 FPS. Period. If you want RAW at 30 FPS you need to select Compressed. The new Sony FDA-EP21 eyepiece is compatible with Alpha 1, Alpha 1 II, Alpha 9 III, a7R V, a7 IV and a7S III, as listed in the compatibility guide That likely means they needed to update Nikon mount for compatibility but did not have any such issues with their E-mount lens. Sony Alpha 1 II has faster and more accurate autofocus thanks to the AI Processor. That alone was worth the upgrade for me. Alpha 1 II also has Improved Human, Animal & Bird Eye Recognition + Auto ... Correct....though Sept 2026 - Sept 2027 would be more accurate. Sony a7C-Series cameras are on their own timeline independent of a7/a7R updates - but "Not before Fall 2026" is a very safe bet. Are you searching for a way to lower image quality? AF accuracy is greatly improved with cameras that have an AI processor including a7R V and a7CR. There are of course many other improvements but that alone was worth the upgrade for me. Sony Alpha 1 II was available for pre-order on November 20, 2024
