New service hours in Frankfurt am Main from 1 December 2025
From December 1, 2025, the service desk in the reading room in Frankfurt am Main will be open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00.
Leipzig: 9 December 2025
Tuesday 9 December 2025: The reading rooms of the German National Library in Leipzig will open at 13:00 due to a staff assembly.
The exhibitions of the German Museum of Books and Writing will open from 10:00 to 18:00.

AI project wins best paper award

Lisa Kluge and Maximilian Kähler from the German National Library have won a best paper award for their participation in the shared task LLMs4Subjects. The Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology (TIB) had advertises the shared task under the title LLMs4Subjects.
Common statement on the management of artificial intelligence

The German National Library, the TIB and the Börsenverein have engaged in constructive dialogue regarding the use of artificial intelligence systems, resulting in the adoption of a common statement on the matter. The focus was on the responsible, transparent, legally permissible and ethically sound use of AI. It is important to the participating libraries that everyday library work (such as cataloguing works) in particular can be supported in a modern and efficient way with AI tools in the sense of “machine utility“, enabling them to fulfil their core mission.
Successful launch for greater access to cultural heritage

Exactly 100 days ago, on 1 July 2025, the German National Library, VG WORT and VG Bild-Kunst resumed licensing for out-of-commerce works in order to enable cultural heritage institutions to legally digitise and make accessible copyright-protected sources from the 20th century.
Shaping Access! Artificial intelligence

The fifteenth international conference “Shaping Access!“ will be hosted by the German National Library in Leipzig in 2025. This year's conference will focus on artificial intelligence. Participants will explore this topic in numerous presentations, discussions, focus groups and a “Market of Opportunities“.
SPARQL-Service

A new offer is now available in the Linked Data Service. The new SPARQL endpoint enables semantic querying of our data via both a web and a machine interface. Underhttps://sparql.dnb.de, for example, questions such as "Which titles that appeared after 2010 are tagged with 'KI' and were written by authors who are known as philosophers?" or "How has the frequency of the keyword 'Feminism' developed since 1900?" can be answered.
