Get straight to the top tech—no junk, just the best.
The Xbox Series X and S had no small task in trying to compete with thebest PS5 gamesand thebest Switch gamesat the same time. While it did get off to a slow start for the generation, its library has exploded with games thanks to all of the studios under its umbrella.
There’s no shortage of games to play on either console thanks toXbox Game Pass, which gives players immediate access to a library of titles old and new. That catalog offers extra value on top of all the new games available on the system that take advantage of its impressive technical specs. With Bethesda and Activision now under the Xbox umbrella, amazing games are coming out on a monthly basis, if not multiple.
We’ve combed through the current batch of new Xbox games to put together an updated running list of titles that new console owners shouldn’t miss. And don’t forget to check out thebest upcoming Xbox Series X games as well.

It would be easy to just put the latest Call of Duty game on the list and call it a day, but honestly, the last few entries haven’t exactly been all that impressive. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 feels like a true return to form for the franchise thanks to a revamped and fluid movement system, a return to the arcadey Zombies mode, and a great map selection. The single-player campaign is also great and full of interesting scenarios we’ve never seen the franchise attempt before.

The staggered release of campaign and multiplayer was an odd move, but both turned out far better than initial impressions suggested. A few of us were lucky enough to see just how good this game was shaping up based on the test periods, but now the competitive mode that will determineHalo Infinite’slong-term life is out and, quite frankly, amazing. This game brings it back to the old style of shooter Halo used to be known for instead of trying to follow along with trends set by other games in the genre. Over the past few years, IO Interactive has been knocking it out of the park with its Hitman series. The stealth action game got a huge boost of adrenaline in 2016 with the first game in a sort of rebooted trilogy called World of Assassination.Hitman introduced an ingenious puzzle element to the long-running series, allowing players to find creative and outrageous ways to take out targets. The series has only stayed consistent since, and nowHitman 3 offers a perfect capper to the trilogy.Hitman 3 doesn’t shake the formula up in many ways, instead opting to double down on what’s made the previous games so enjoyable. The levels are better than ever, offering sprawling sandboxes filled with challenges and surprises. The game’s murder mystery Dartmoor level is especially noteworthy, bringing a classic whodunnit movie setup to the game.Hitman 3 essentially acts as a house for all three games as players can import progress and levels fromHitman andHitman 2, making it a must-own “complete edition” of the series.

If you ever wanted to play a Metroidvania that looked like a painting in motion, there’s no other choice butOri and the Will of the Wisps. As if the majestic art style and surprisingly touching story weren’t enough reason to pick this game up, the fact that the Series X can push it to run at a stunning 4K resolutionandhold 120 frames per second is just icing on the cake. This sequel is a full-on improvement over the great first title, with a large world to explore, new moves to learn, and more bosses to overcome. If you’re a fan of the Metroidvania genre, this indie title proves that even a smaller team can create a game that feels as polished and rewarding as any big-budget studio.

Street Fighter 6 feels like the most significant revelation for the fighting game genre since Street Fighter 2. No matter the skill level, all types of players will find something to enjoy here. The core fighting gameplay felt as amazing to play as ever, bolstered by a flashy new Drive Gauge system. Those who enjoy the series for its hardcore, competitive elements will like that, as well as its multiplayer Battle Hub mode. That said, Street Fighter 6 is also the friendliest fighting game ever for newcomers to the genre. New modern controls, as well as a meaty RPG World Tour mode that teaches the ins and outs of many of the game’s characters and mechanics, means there’s a ton of enjoyment to be had no matter one’s skill level.

It was hard to imagineTekken 8could compete with the masterpiece that wasStreet Fighter 6,but it somehow did more than that. It takes the onboarding and teaching tools to a whole new level to gradually get people familiar with the more advanced styles and strategies. It helps that the game is downright gorgeous, as well. While very brief, the single-player campaign is a wild time that will please fans who have been following the story of the Mishima family for decades.

The Forza Horizon style of racing game almost perfectly rides the line between being a racing simulator and a “pick up and play” arcade-style game. The latest entry,Forza Horizon 5, brings the open-world racer into Mexico to show off some of the most beautiful environments and cars ever displayed by a console. Seriously, this game is worth the price just to look at how gorgeous it is. The fact that you get perhaps the best racing game ever crafted on top of that is almost unreal. The game runs buttery smooth at either 30 or 60 fps depending on what settings you prefer and has hours of content to race through.

Grand strategy games are few and far between, and your options are even more limited if you play on console. That’s why it’s such a treat that we not only gotCrusader Kings IIIin the first place, but that it was also able to make its way onto your Series X. This game takes simulating a medieval kingdom to the extreme. You can use diplomacy, war, sabotage, and other political tactics to overcome just about any conflict. That level of depth does come with a very steep learning curve, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the genre. Thankfully the controller support is great, and you can take the game at any pace you want. Once you get deep into it, the things that can happen, by your choice or not, will be unlike anything you thought a game could even do.

For the first time in the long, long history ofCivilization games, Civilization 7launched on consoles at the same time as PC.For those who have already sunk hundreds of hours into past titles, this entry won’t be a huge shakeup to the formula. You are still expanding your territory, growing your cities, interacting with other leaders, and aiming to win through one of the various victory conditions. What this game adds is Ages where you are able to reset and change aspects of your Civ as technology advances, plus deeper ways you can team up with or cause friction with the other leaders. If you’re someone who can fall into a loop of that “just one more turn” mentality, you might want to watch out for this one.

WhenMicrosoft Flight Simulator 2024 first launched in 2024, it had a bit of a stumble with its cloud integration. Even the beefiest of computers could still struggle with the gargantuan game. Unlike its predecessor, this time the game also came to consoles at launch so we didn’t have to wait. The Xbox Series X is the best way to playMicrosoft Flight Simulator. Part of that is out of necessity more than anything since it is such a demanding game on PC. The Xbox Series X version eliminates the variables that come with trying to run a game on any old PC by optimizing it for consistent tech. This version also lets you do more than just enjoy the flight thanks to new jobs that let you do things like fight fires and perform rescue operations.

After all these decades, Tetris is still a perfect puzzle game. Clearing four rows of blocks with one straight tetromino piece is still the most satisfying experience in gaming. While several games have found clever ways to play with the formula (seeTetris 99 orPuyo Puyo Tetris),Tetris Effect is hands down the most gorgeous way to experience the game. Originally released on PlayStation 4 with an excellent VR mode, the Xbox version brings the game’s trippy visuals to the Series X. Players essentially play through rounds filled with aesthetically pleasing visuals and music, making it the perfect chillout game. The Xbox version features new multiplayer options (hence the Connected moniker), bringing co-op and competitive play to the game. While it lacks the VR component that made the original release a hit, it’s still a pleasing puzzler filled with good vibes.

This game starts out simple but has so much to discover within its walls. This is a roguelike where you do get better each and every run, but only if you as the player are paying attention and learn.

The Gears of War franchise has always been known for its fast-paced action and larger-than-life gunplay. So it might be surprising to hear thatGears Tactics, a spinoff of the popular shooter series, is a turn-based strategy game where players methodically plot out attacks. Surprisingly, the genre flip isn’t as drastic as it might sound. This is still very much a Gears of War game, complete with cover-based shooting, oversized weapons, and hordes of aliens. Compared to other strategy games,Gears Tactics is much heavier on action. Enemies spawn frequently and players can do much more in one turn than just move and fire one shot. For those who love the Gears universe, it’s a fresh take on the franchise that reimagines the pace of a strategy game.

OLED at 360Hz for $499.99 is the kind of monitor deal PC gamers wait for
Alienware’s 27-inch QD-OLED 1440p 360Hz monitor drops to $499.99 for a limited time
If you’ve been using a decent gaming monitor and wondering why people obsess over OLED, this is the type of discount that makes the upgrade feel justified. The Alienware AW2725DF is $499.99 for a limited time, down from $649.99 (23% off). What makes it interesting is the combo: QD-OLED, 2560x1440, 360Hz, and 0.03ms response. That mix is aimed at gamers who want both “wow” image quality and genuinely fast competitive performance, without having to pick one or the other.
This Alienware Aurora deal is a rare way to get an RTX 5080 system without paying RTX 5080 prices
Alienware’s RTX 5080 Aurora drops to $2,399.99 for a limited time, and the math is hard to ignore
Prebuilt gaming desktops usually make you pay extra for the convenience. This one is interesting because the discount lines up with what the market is doing right now. The Alienware Aurora ACT1250 is $2,399.99 for a limited time, down from $2,999.99 (20% off).
The key reason this deal pops is the GPU. Even though NVIDIA lists the RTX 5080 as starting at $999, real-world pricing has been running far higher due to availability and demand.
Sony’s PlayStation 6 might be further away than you hoped
Memory shortages and AI demand could push Sony’s next console to 2028 or even 2029.
If you were expecting the PlayStation 6 to arrive on the usual console timeline, it may be time to reset expectations. A new report from Bloomberg suggests Sony is considering pushing back the next PlayStation launch to 2028 or even 2029, a significant shift from the typical seven-year console cycle. Interestingly, this is something that was rumored late last year, too.
The reason is not a lack of ambition or demand. It is a global memory chip shortage driven by the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure. According to the Bloomberg report, the surge in AI data centers is consuming massive amounts of DRAM and high-bandwidth memory, leaving consumer electronics companies competing for a shrinking supply.
