Microsoft says 32GB RAM for gaming beats 64GB splurges

Microsoft says 16GB still covers most games, but 32GB is the smarter target for demanding play, as it also points shoppers toward Copilot+ PCs instead of DIY builds.

Microsoft is pushing32GB RAM for gaming as the sweet spot for people who takePC play seriously. It still treats 16GB as enough for most games, but draws a clear line for heavier setups, especially if you mod, multitask, or chase smoother feel in newer releases.

The timing is tricky. RAM is one of several upgrades that can get expensive fast, and it’s rarely the most exciting one. But it’s also the kind that can quietly fix the stuff that makes a good PC feel bad.

Microsoft also bundles the advice with a broader message that building a rig is a headache, and that aCopilot+ PC is a simpler way to land in a modern, ready-to-run configuration.

The spec ladder it lays out

Beyond memory, Microsoft lays out a basic progression for 1080p, 1440p, and 4K gaming, with example CPUs andGPUs at each step. The theme is familiar, match the class of your graphics card to the resolution you actually play, then pick the rest of the system so it doesn’t hold the GPU back.

It also keeps the supporting tips grounded, use an SSD, plan enough storage for today’s huge installs, and don’t overspend chasing performance your monitor can’t show.

Why 32GB feels like the new default

The real case for 32GB isn’t a magic FPS boost. It’s what happens when your PC stops being a single-task box and starts running your whole session, the game, mods, voice chat, a browser, capture tools, and launchers all at once.

That’s where memory headroom can mean fewer stutters, less hitching, and less background slow-down when a big area loads or a messy mod list piles on. In other words, 32GB helps protect the experience you already paid for in your GPU.

What to do before you spend

If you’re buying a new PC and you plan to keep it for years, 32GB is a low-regret spec, especially for mod-heavy games and multitasking habits. If your setup is mostly esports titles and you keep things lean while you play, 16GB can still feel fine, and money often goes further on the GPU, SSD, or monitor. One caveat is that Microsoft’s materials here don’t include benchmarks or game-by-game examples, so treat the recommendation as broad guidance, not a hard rule. If your 16GB rig feels smooth today, wait until you can name the problem, then upgrade with confidence.

A digital safe mode that prioritizes caution over convenience.

ChatGPT has a new security feature called Lockdown Mode, but OpenAI is clear about one thing from the start: most people don’t need to turn it on.

The new mode is designed for users who face unusually high digital risk, such as journalists, activists, or people working in sensitive environments. For everyone else, OpenAI says the standard protections built into ChatGPT are already enough.

You’ll soon be able to cap your MacBook’s charge at 80 percent to preserve battery health
iPhone's Charge Limit feature is making its way to MacBooks with macOS Tahoe 26.4.

Apple's iPhone lineup has long included a charge limit feature designed to preserve battery health by preventing the device from charging to 100 percent. By capping the maximum charge level, users can reduce battery wear over time, particularly if their device spends long stretches plugged in. Now, that same functionality is making its way to MacBooks.

Apple has introduced a new Charge Limit option in the latest macOS Tahoe 26.4 beta. According to MacRumors, the feature allows users to set a maximum charge level between 80 percent and 100 percent, giving them direct control over battery longevity. Once enabled, the MacBook will stop charging when it reaches the selected limit rather than automatically topping off to full capacity.

Everything we expect from Apple’s March 4 event
From a lower-cost MacBook to the iPhone 17e and next-generation Studio Display, Apple's March 4 event could reshape its affordable and performance hardware lineup.
Food, Fruit, Plant

Apple has sent out invites to a special "experience" scheduled for March 4, 2026. For the first time in a while, the iPhone maker is holding press briefings in three different cities around the world: New York, London, and Shanghai, as a way to address three of its key markets.

Unlike the usual events that take place at Apple Park, the March 4 "experience" focuses more on providing localized, hands-on access to a higher number of new devices. These could include the purported iPhone 17e, four new MacBook models with the most-anticipated low-cost or affordable version, a new baseline iPad, iPad Air, Studio Display, and a couple of other products.
