Channel 4 has cut a bomb hoax plot from its new dramaAckley Bridge in the wake of the Manchester terror attack.
The Mirror reports that the producers made the decision to cut a scene that saw a bombing hoax carried out by a schoolchild, and that the first episode of the series is now being re-edited.
"In light of the tragic events in Manchester, the first episode of forthcoming drama seriesAckley Bridge is being re-edited. A new episode one will be available to view within the next few days," a Channel 4 spokesman explained.
Its first episode would have seen a child contact the school with a bomb threat, leading to a secretary causing a panic in assembly. The pupil responsible would have then pulled open his jacket to reveal the 'bomb', which turns out to be party poppers.
Set in the fictional town of Ackley Bridge, the drama centres on a school where Asian and white students are mixed for the first time.
Ackley Bridge sees former soap stars Jo Joyner and Sunetra Sarker, ofEastEnders andCasualty respectively, reunite for the first time since they starred together inNo Angels, which ran for three series from 2004 to 2006.
A total of22 people were confirmed dead, including children, following an explosion at Ariana Grande's concert at Manchester Arena on Monday night (May 22).
Greater Manchester Police chief constable Ian Hopkins explained that the attack was carried out by a lone man who died at the scene, later identified as 22-year-old Salman Abdi, believed to have been born in Manchester and of Libyan descent.
