Irene was born in Cordova, SC to the late David Cromwell “Crum” Nettles and the late Georgia Dantzler Nettles. She was a Federal Investigator when she retired but had worked in Insurance for many years as well. Irene will forever be remembered as being endearing, smart, focused, mischievous, kind, adventurous, frugal, a sight to see, tiny, nice as can be, loving, gentle, Shorty, Nana with the curly hair, tactful, the best auntie, an avid reader, surprising, knowing how to nicely get what she wanted if it was to help others, making the world a better place, great sense of humor, spicy, organized, detailed, amazing, and many more. She truly was a force of nature who will be missed, but remembered with many smiles, laughs, and much love.
Irene is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Steely; daughters Beth, Pam and Kim; son-in-law Tom Sherry, granddaughters Jessi, Heather, and Audrey; grandsons Chris, Patrick, Tim, Kyle, and Connor; grandson-in-law Chris; granddaughter-in-law Holly; great-grandsons Anthony and Matthew, and sister-in-law Doris Nettles.
