Licensing
At De Gruyter Brill, we work with an extensive network of international publishers and literary agencies to find the best licensing partners for our authors. Over the years, our publications have been translated into more than 40 languages and published in over 60 countries.
If you’re interested in translating or republishing one of our titles, kindlyreach out to our Rights & Licensing team.
Permission Requests
If you’re looking to reuse material from one of our publications, kindly note that any reuse of copyrighted material requires express permission by the publisher. Please make sure to request permission well in advance and note that in most cases, a licensing fee will apply.
The quickest way to get permission for reuse of our content will be via our partner platform,Copyright Clearance Center (CCC).
Should you require further assistance or wish to submit your request personally, kindly write to us, indicating the title you wish to reuse and let us know the format (print, e-publication, audio, open access, …) as well as print run/user group and publisher/media where the content in question will be republished.
Especially when requesting image or illustration rights, kindly take the time to check in the sources whether De Gruyter Brill is the actual rights owner. If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. Please note, however, that we are not authorized to give legal counsel.
Please direct all requests regarding Rights & Licensing to our team at:rights@degruyterbrill.com.
Publicly available publications
Publications marked as “publicly available" are not exempt from copyright protection. Violations of these conditions may result in legal consequences.
The following types of use are permitted free of charge and do not require De Gruyter Brill’s authorization: to read, print out, download, or save the material on private data carriers. This encompasses personal, non-commercial use only.
If you wish to reuse publicly available content commercially, copy or share a publication or part of it, a permission is required. Please reach out to ourRights & Licensing team for that purpose.
Open access content
Content which has been published in Open Access may be reused under the conditions of the corresponding license. You can find out more about the different types of Open Access licenses on theofficial Creative Commons webpage.
Reuse of your own work
If you are an author wishing to reuse your own work or parts of it, our repository policies will give you an extensive overview on the different options to reuse your journal article or book chapter:
If your intended reuse of the material is not covered by the policies mentioned above – e.g., because it will be a commercial reuse – kindly reach out to ourRights & Licensing team.
