Pakistan attains ‘second strike capability’ with test-fire of submarine-launched cruise missile

Pakistan on Monday successfully test-fired its first ever nuclear-capable submarine-launched cruise missile Babur-III, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said.

The range of the missile is 450 kilometres, the DG ISPR said.

"The successful attainment of a second strike capability by Pakistan represents a major scientific milestone; it is manifestation of the strategy of measured response to nuclear strategies and postures being adopted in Pakistan’s neighborhood," themilitary said after the test.

Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa congratulated the team behind the launch and the nation on the development, Maj Gen Ghafoor said.

The missile was launched from an undisclosed location in the Indian Ocean, Radio Pakistan reported.

It was fired from an underwater, mobile platform and hit its target with precise accuracy.

Babur-III is a sea-based variant of ground-launched cruise missile Babur-II, which was successfully tested earlier in December last.

According to Radio Pakistan, the newly-launched missile has been built with state-of-the-art technology, including underwater-controlled propulsion and advanced guidance and navigation features, augmented by global navigation and terrain and scene matching systems.

Babur-III also features terrain-hugging and sea-skimming flight capabilities to evade hostile radars and air defences, in addition to other stealth technologies.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Zubair Hayat, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah also congratulated the nation on this landmark achievement, the DG ISPR said.

what is the need of time is our inner strength, It is in the roots, not the branches, that a tree’s greatest strength lies. unfortunately it has become weaker. when we can make so sophisticated weapons, so complex in design, why can't design the system of check and balance for our government.. Let us kick out all those illiterate from the senate and assemblies and put highly competent to rewrite our constitutions and device a mechanism based on honesty, truth, and justice... let us make sure that constitution is written or amended is not the politicians but by highly qualified think tank... and we will be a great nation and we can hold our heads up high in this world

This completes Pakistan's air, land and sea launched missile capability. This is good news for regional peace, as it establishes Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) status with India to prevent war. India had defied the world to start nuclear-weapons and missile capability which forced Pakistan to develop the same for self defence.

It's like not letting a kid past his teens and then blaming the kid for not getting mature enough .. Let's call spade a spade and blame those military rulers who have ruled this country for decades instead of weak politicians who got their turns merely every couple of years with full veiled interference from the agencies .. It was Zia who created the mess by encouraging madrassas and destroyed the already weak Public schools .. None of them brought any positive change education system or did any thing to control the over population rather did everything to make it worse.

It's not to point an individual but readers must be aware of the meaning of SECOND STRIKE.'In nuclear strategy, a second-strike capability is a country's assured ability to respond to a nuclear attack with powerful nuclear retaliation against the attacker. To have such an ability (and to convince an opponent of its viability) is considered vital in nuclear deterrence, as otherwise the other side might attempt to try to win a nuclear war in one massive first strike against its opponent's own nuclear forces.'Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_strike

How many to turn against injustice or intolerance? This is a enthusiasm that will turn around the country.

Well done the increase in defense capability is exponential very soon I believe we would achieve all strike capabilities. But these are for the external enemies, what are we doing for our internal issues nothing at all. All kinds of game changers and cosmetic props promising some sort of distant utopia but nothing here nothing now.

Pakistan need minimum 3 nuclear submarines with MIRV tipped ICBMs so one is always deployed when two are undergoing service. This will be a real strategic deterrence. Putting small tactical missiles on diesel submarines do not give strategic deterrence.

@Masoud So, according to you in this time and age, let the people live below civilized life without clean drinking water, electricity, roads, clean air, no health institutions but we should live on borrowed money and US Aid and spent that all on Armed Forces and these missiles etc or F16 or Tanks and fight enemies created by bad diplomacy or no diplomacy?

How is it possible that original research and development in missile technology never fails. All advanced countries have had failures while Pak experiments are always 100% success. What's the reason behind it.

@Shahid This is just video recording produced in a lab. Once food can be produced in a lab video, roads and hospitals constructed in a lab video and people educated in a lab video, Pakistan will be the envy of the world. Till then, we can be happy watching bollywood and our own ISPR videos. People have crooked minds to cheat the common man after spending billions of Ruppees in the name of defence.

@salman Second Strike doesn't mean having different modes of transportation for the war head as you mentioned. It is about having the ability to respond back if subjected to nuclear attack - GOD forbids such a scenario. It is to understand aircrafts, submarines, missiles and others are component of Second Strike rather than rather than elevated categories of Strike as First, Second, Third and so on.In short First Strike is the country that initiate nuclear attack. Second Strike is the ability to sustain nuclear attack and able to Strike back with nuclear warhead.

@Sajid Rafique "Now design a missile which, when dropped on enemy territory , will make them all friends instead of killing them." US dropped a bomb in Japan in 1945. Today Japan and US are best friends. Sorry for my cynicism.
