FORMER Late Late Show hostCraig Ferguson has started work on his new project - a comedy pilot for US telly.

The Scots born talent wrapped up his 2,058 episodes and ten year run of the CBS chat show in December to give way to new hostJames Corden who is due to make his debut as anchor of the show later this month.

While James is making headlines over his apparently problematic rehearsals -as audience members ironically complain the British actor’s accent is hard to understand and is ‘boring’, Craig hasn’t been letting the grass grow under his feet.

As well as going on a small comedy tour Craig’s newest project sees him return to acting with a starring role in ABC’s single-cameracomedy pilot The King Of 7B.

The project, written by Howard Franklin and directed by David Frankel, sees Craig play Prentiss Porter an agoraphobic recluse who ventures outside for the first time in 11 years when he spies what could be his soulmate moving into the building across the street.

Over the weekend Craig was pictured on set for the first time with costar - Two and A Half Men actress Marin Hinkle and The Pursuit of Happiness star Amir Talai.

He said: “Prentiss Porter is a character who I found enough allegory and identification with my own situation.

"This is man who’s been trapped in a very comfortable but very confining situation for a long time and now has seen something that he wants outside the window and is prepared to frighten himself and take the risk of seeing what happens if he starts taking steps outside of whatever comfortable prison that he’s in.

"So yeah, I saw parallels with my own life, and I found that very, very attractive. But, you know, what really attracted me to the project was of course the script but also the people involved in the making of it. That’s a big carrot in a situation like this.”
