In a three-month pilot with ARCNL and Photosynthetic, CWI researchers explore what it would take to make optical computing practical. They look at the mathematical challenges involved, as well as the optical elements that can actually be manufactured.
Research themes
Our fundamental research is focused on four topics: algorithms, data and intelligent systems, cryptography and security, quantum computing.
Semester programme
Our Research Semester Programme aims to create an environment in which researchers from Dutch universities can exchange ideas on specific topics on a regular basis.
Our research groups
Research at CWI is organized in 15 research groups. We conduct pioneering research in mathematics and computer science, generate new knowledge and convey it to industry and society.
Collaboration with universities
CWI considers it important to link its own scientific research to education and training at universities. Currently, more than thirty CWI researchers hold part-time appointments at nine Dutch universities.
Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) is the national research institute for mathematics and computer science in the Netherlands.
CWI conducts pioneering research in mathematics and computer science and transfers new knowledge to society and business. We focus on four areas of fundamental research:Algorithms,Data & Intelligent systems,Cryptography & Security, andQuantum Computing. CWI works closely with Dutch universities throughsemester programmes, joint research programs and an active exchange of scientific talent.
