Osun govt re-introduces corporal punishment in schools

Osun State government has reintroduced corporal punishment tocurb indiscipline by students, ranging from cult activities toanti-social vices in all the secondary schools in the state. TheState Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan whodropped this hint while briefing newsmen on the activities of hisministry for year 2007 stated that the state government wasworried by the level at which students' discipline haddegenerated in the state.

According to him, if drastic action was not taken on time thesituation was getting to a stage at which students publiclyinsulted their teachers and often get away with it.

The commissioner disclosed that the government had discoveredthat most of the problems presently happening in tertiaryinstitutions in the state today are as a result of lack of properdiscipline of students while in secondary schools before theiradmission into tertiary institutions.
