WELCOME TO COOGEE SYNAGOGUE
Just a short walk from the beach, Coogee Synagogue has been a warm and welcoming part of the community since 1960. It was founded by a group of Holocaust survivors who came to Australia seeking a new beginning after the devastation of post-war Europe.
In those early years, many young Jewish families lived nearby and joined together to create the heart of what would become Coogee Synagogue. For eight years before the synagogue was built, a small but dedicated Kehillah gathered to worship in a local garage, using a Sefer Torah kindly loaned by The Great Synagogue.
From these humble beginnings, the community grew, purchased land, and over time completed three renovations to create the beautiful, modern building we cherish today.
Today, we are proud to have more than 300 members and a vibrant, welcoming community known for our warmth, inclusivity, and hospitality. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our seaside home.
