  • Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know thatMuppet Babies is a reboot of the 1980s classicJim Henson cartoon of the same name and features toddler versions of several famous Muppet characters. The stories take place in the Babies' playroom, which yields to their imaginations and provides the setting for adventures in far-off places and times. As the Babies immerse themselves in their make-believe, they're confronted with small problems that they must overcome using creative thinking skills. Friendship and teamwork are also common themes, helping the characters to resolve small squabbles along the way. Lively music and fun adventures make this reboot a fun pick for kids and parents.

  • Violence & Scariness

    none

Some of the characters' adventures involve mild scares and monsters of sorts, which always turn out to be less scary when their true identities are revealed.

    none

The series is a reboot of the classic cartoon of the same name, and versions of most of the characters appear in other Jim Henson productions.

  • Positive Messages

    some

The Muppet Babies show kids that imagination can take them anywhere, even within the confines of their playroom. As the characters assume different identities to make their make-believe come alive, they practice constructive problem-solving skills and help each other deal with their fears. Friendship and teamwork are standout themes.

  • Positive Role Models

    some

The Muppet Babies have big imaginations that help them explore the bigger world, challenging them to work together, solve problems, and think creatively. Some dominant character traits can cause trouble at times, such as Miss Piggy's bossiness and Animal's lack of self-control, but as a group the friends find ways to cope with them as well. Miss Nanny appears only in the playroom scenes, but she's a gentle guide and source of encouragement for their imaginative play.

  • Educational Value

    very little

The series inspires an appreciation for imaginative play more than it aims to teach kids anything specific. The characters' adventures do expose viewers to interpretations of places and times like outer space and the medieval era, though.

What's the Story?

In MUPPET BABIES, preschoolers Kermit (voiced byMatt Danner), Piggy (Melanie Harrison), Animal (Dee Bradley Baker), Gonzo (Ben Diskin), Fozzie (Eric Bauza), and Summer Penguin (Jessica Di Cicco) spend their days letting their imaginations take them to new and exciting places, all from the comforts of their playroom. With Miss Nanny's (Jenny Slate) encouragement, the tots use toys and costumes to inspire their adventures through time and space, solving problems and conquering fears as they play. As they make their dreams come true, they also learn what it means to be a friend through thick and thin.

One of Jim Henson's most beloved productions gets a makeover in this darling CGI series that shows kids why make-believe is so much fun. With five familiar faces and one exuberant newcomer in Summer Penguin,Muppet Babies celebrates the limitless possibilities of letting imaginations run wild. Using their own curiosity and a toy or two as inspiration, these friends soon find themselves aboard ships, in outer space, in a dragon's lair, or in one of any number of exotic destinations, learning how to solve problems as a team along the way.

This delightful remake is a fun introduction for kids to the ubiquitous Jim Henson characters, especially for parents who grew up with fond memories of the original series. With some help, kids can identify how the Babies learn to solve problems and, in some cases, face their fears when they arise. Original songs and vibrant animation help sell this updated version that does its classic parent series proud.
