What's the best internet deal available now?

Internet is expensive, and there's no cutting it from our monthly expenses. While we're often limited towhat internet options are available at our address, what if you could sign up for internetand get a gift card or deal on your monthly cost in the process?

Luckily, mostinternet service providers run deals all year long. Some of these deals are better than others, and some ISPs useprice traps that'll keep you stuck with a subpar plan for a while. We've done the research for you and compiled the top deals and perks from some of the most popular ISPs. From gift cards andJBL speakers to discounted rates -- there's a little bit of everything out there.

Frontier Fiber's 500Mbps plan is one of the best internet deals available right now. For a limited time, you can get Frontier Fiber's 500megabits per second plan starting at $30 monthly, which will last for a year before jumping to $55. Even at the regular monthly price, Frontier's 500Mbps plan still features a relativelylow cost per Mbps. On top of the price cut,Frontier Fiber is offering a $100 Visa gift card for its 500Mbps, 1,000Mbps and 2,000Mbps plans to sweeten the deal. All Frontier Fiber plans feature customer-friendly terms like free equipment rental and unlimited data.

If you're looking for other signup bonus offers, ISPs often throw in gift cards, streaming service subscriptions, free months of service or other incentives for new customers.AT&T Fiber andOptimum typically offer gift cards to all online customers, whileVerizon Fios keeps it interesting with a frequent mix of free streaming services or a price lock guarantee of up to five years.

If you're looking for a sign to try outT-Mobile's 5G Home Internet, this is it. For a limited time, T-Mobile is offering a $5 discount for all its 5G internet plans. If you have a T-Mobile voice plan, you can get the Amplified Home Internet plan for $45 a month (regularly $65) and the All-In Home Internet Plan for $55 (regularly $65). Note that T-Mobile doesn't specify when this deal will end. On the bright side, there is also a prepaid $200 and $300 Mastercard gift card for new customers signing up for its Amplified and All-In Home Internet plans online. The deal comes after T-Mobile'srecent gateway router upgrade boosted speeds across all T-Mobile Home Internet plans. The gift cards are only eligible after 60 days of service, and you only get the gift card after 10 weeks of service, so keep that in mind before committing to trying it out.

You'll find a recent roundup of the best offers and promotions from leading ISPs below. Keep in mind that not all providers, pricing and promotions are available in all areas and that offers are subject to change at any time.

Frontier Fiber 500

Best internet deal overall

Our take - Frontier Fiber offers a few speed tiers, including a new $30 200Mbps plan, but its Fiber 500 plan is arguably the best one-size-fits-all internet deal.

Pros and Cons
Pros
  • Wi-Fi router rental included in the price
  • Unlimited data
  • Fast fiber speeds
Cons
  • Spotty DSL speeds
  • Poor, but improving, customer satisfaction record
  • Term agreement required to get signup bonuses

Symmetrical download and upload speeds of up to 500Mbps are more than enough for most households and the $30 price is lower than you'll find from many other providers for comparable, or even slower, speeds. For example, that 500Mbps plan has a cost per Mbps of 6 cents. Compare that to a similarly priced plan or one even cheaper from another provider -- such as the Ziply Fiber 100 plan, which has a lower starting price at $20 per month but significantly lower maximum download speeds (100Mbps) and thus a higher cost per Mbps -- and Frontier Fiber's 500Mbps plan stands out as the much better internet deal.

Additionally, Wi-Fi equipment (a sleek Wi-Fi 7 Eero Pro router) and unlimited data are also included at no extra cost.

Pros and Cons
Pros
  • All Verizon Fios plans are 100% fiber, with symmetrical download and upload speeds
  • No data caps or allowances on any plans
  • No term agreements necessary on any plans
Cons
  • Low fiber availability for a national company
  • While Fios and 5G are affordable, LTE and DSL options are pricey

Right now, Verizon has a limited-time offer where you get to lock in your price for up to four years across all plans. That's quite a deal, as many providers hike their rates after just 12 months. Unlimited data and your equipment rental are also included at no extra cost.

Verizon is currently offering either a choice of the JBL Clip, YouTube Premium for six months or a $100 Amazon gift card for those who sign up for the 300Mbps or 500Mbps plans. To entice you toward the 1-gig and 2-gig options, Verizon is offering $400 off Samsung products at Best Buy or a JBL PartyBox speaker. To sweeten the deal, Verizon is also throwing in YouTube Premium for six months and up to $250 in Amazon gift cards.

All new users can get a $200 Verizon gift card, too, (which you can use to either pay your internet bill or stock up on Verizon tech) if they stay in good standing with an active Fios plan 65 days from starting service.

Verizon is also known for offering streaming bundles and add-ons, like its Disney Plus bundle, which costs $10 a month and includes Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus (with ads).

Customers with eligible 5G mobile plans can get $25 off each month's Fios internet bill as well.

Spectrum

Best internet and mobile bundle deal

Our take - Spectrum internet is a decent deal on its own with speeds of 500Mbps or 1Gbps starting at $50 and $70 a month, respectively. Bundling makes Spectrum an even better deal with monthly discounts: You can get up to $20 off 500Mbps or $30 off gig service. Bundling also doubles your price guarantee from one to two years and nixes the $10 cost of your Wi-Fi and modem.

Along with the bundle discounts, Spectrum offers a unique contract buyout offer, up to $2,500 to pay off your phone balance. Spectrum also offers up to $500 to cover any cancellation fees with your current internet provider. Spectrum also has a limited offer where you can earn a $50 credit that will be applied to your account when you sign up for internet online.

AT&T Fiber

Best internet deal selection

Our take - With fast, symmetrical speeds, unlimited data, no equipment fees and no contract requirements, AT&T Fiber plans are a great deal on their own. Select areas will have three plans to choose from with maximum speeds of 300Mbps, 500Mbps or 1Gbps, while many will have two additional multi-gig options (2Gbps or 5Gbps).

  • No data caps for any fiber plans
  • Valuable perks and promotional offers
Cons
  • Much slower DSL plans are more prevalent than fiber options
  • Data caps enforced on all non-fiber plans

The selection of high-speed, fair-priced plans you get with AT&T Fiber is perhaps the best you'll find from any provider.

AT&T offers reward cards for new users: the 1-gig plan comes with a $150 reward card, the 500Mbps plan comes with a $100 reward card and the 300Mbps plan comes with a $50 reward card.

If you're looking to switch providers, AT&T Fiber's contract buyout offer will pay your cancellation fee with another provider in full when you switch. Also, customers can get $20 off their monthly bill if they have an eligible AT&T postpaid wireless plan.

Our take - It wasn't long ago that bundling internet and TV services with the same provider came with some serious savings. Now, you'd be lucky to get any discount for bundling internet and TV. Unless you live in an area served by Xfinity, that is.

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

Best 5G home internet deal

Pros

  • Aggressively competitive with its terms and perks
Cons
  • Speeds may vary
  • Max download speeds don't match fiber and cable
  • Home internet customers deprioritized over mobile

If you have a T-Mobile voice plan, you can get the Amplified Home Internet plan for $45 a month (regularly $65) and the All-In Home Internet Plan for $55 (regularly $65). T-Mobile doesn't specify when this deal will end. Customers can also earn a $200 to $300 gift card if they sign up for the Amplified and All-In Home Internet plans online. You'll have to try out the service for at least 60 days to cash the card, but it's worth testing T-Mobile's new gateway router and upgraded speeds.

People who have the All-In Home Internet plan, which costs $70 monthly and offers a download speed of 133Mbps to 415Mbps, get a one-year Hulu and Paramount Plus subscription (both with ads). T-Mobile is also offering a five-year price guarantee across all plans.

Plus, T-Mobile tries to keep things interesting by offering "T-Mobile Tuesdays." If you shop online on a Tuesday, you'll likely be eligible for a discount or exclusive perk on a 5G home internet plan.

Cox StraightUp Internet

Best prepaid internet deal

Starting at $50 per month, the service comes with download speeds up to 100Mbps, free equipment, free installation and a three-year price guarantee. Additionally, no contract or credit check is required to sign up.

Pros and Cons
Pros
  • Gigabit speeds available across entire service area
  • Reasonable data usage terms, no throttling
Cons
  • Plans are pricier than other cable internet providers
  • Steep price increases after first year
  • Cox gateway device doubles as a public hotspot by default
  • Unlimited data bundles are a bad value

For a prepaid plan, Cox StraightUp Internet is a fairly good deal, but the relatively slow speeds keep it from being a great deal. Speeds of 100Mbps for $50 per month equate to a cost per Mbps of 50 cents, which is high compared to most internet plans. On the other hand, the convenience of a prepaid service, free equipment rental and a three-year price guarantee go a long way to make up for the high cost per Mbps.

Cox also offers a $15 monthly discount on all plans if you bundle with a qualifying Cox Mobile plan.

Other internet deals this month

Internet deals and promos vary by ISP, and providers vary by location and individual plans, so any number of deals could be available at your address. Here are some other noteworthy deals in addition to the ones listed above that you may want to consider.

Astound Broadband: Free service, gift cards, discounted installation. Astound's internet offers vary by location and are a bit all over the place. For example, New York City and Annapolis customers can get free service for one month when signing up for the provider's fastest plan. In other areas where Astound service is available, customers may be eligible for up to $200 in gift cards and select addresses may also be eligible for half-off installation costs.

Kinetic by Windstream: Up to $200 in gift cards. In select areas, Kinetic is giving away gift cards for $200 to new customers who sign up for its 2-gig plan and a $100 gift card for new customers signing up for the 1-gig plan. You can also shave $20 off your monthly bill if you bundle your internet with an AT&T wireless plan.

This regional provider is offering a $100 Amazon gift card for new users signing up for its 1-gig, 2-gig and 5-gig plans. Best internet deals FAQ

What's the best internet deal?

While a slew of perks and promos might be enticing to customers, a low-cost-per-Mbps plan will often be the best internet deal.

For example, Frontier Fiber 500 includes maximum download and upload speeds of 500Mbps starting at $45 monthly for a cost per Mbps of 9 cents. Compare that to a similarly priced plan or one even cheaper from another provider -- such as the Xfinity Connect plan, which has a lower starting price at $20 to $30 per month but significantly lower maximum download (150Mbps) and upload (10Mbps) speeds and thus a higher cost per Mbps -- and Frontier Fiber 500 stands out as the much better internet deal.

If you have similar pricing and speed options from multiple providers, look for special promotions, equipment costs, contract requirements and other service factors to determine which provider has the best deal.

Can I get a deal on internet without a contract?

Yes. Many providers, including AT&T, Frontier, Google Fiber, Spectrum and Verizon Fios offer their best internet deals and incentives without requiring you tosign a contract. Other providers, such as Cox and Xfinity, may require you to sign a contract to get the lowest introductory rate in select areas.

What internet deals are available to students and seniors?

Most major providers have a discount internet program available to qualifying low-income households, including those with students andseniors. Plans are typically in the $20 to $30 range and often come with broadband speeds of 50Mbps or higher.

Can I get a better deal from my current ISP?

Special offers such as introductory pricing and sign-up bonuses are typically reserved for new customers. That said, it may be possible tonegotiate with your provider for a lower price or faster speeds. Your chances of scoring a better deal are higher if you aren't locked in a contract. Also, it's a good idea to research other providers and offers available in your area before you call. The threat ofswitching internet providers is often enough for your current provider to offer you a better deal.
