With two out and one on, HP Umpire Wolf called Guardians pitcher Herrin for a balk during Twins batter Jose Miranda's plate appearance, scoring baserunner R3 Christian Vázquez on the ensuing base award. At the time of the ejection, the Twins were leading, 6-3. Twins ultimately won the contest, 6-3.

HP Umpire Bruce Dreckman ejected Guardians manager Terry Fracona (Replay Review decision that overturned 3B Umpire Malachi Moore's safe call to out; QOCN) in the bottom of the 4th inning of the #WhiteSox-#Guardians game. With none out and none on, Guardians batter Brayan Rocchio hit a 1-1 slider from Guardians pitcher Mike Clevinger on a line drive to right field, fielded by Trayce Thompson who threw to shortstop Tim Anderson as Rocchio slid into second base, ruled safe by 3B Umpire Moore (rotation). Upon Replays Review as the result of a challenge by White Sox manager Pedro Grifol, Moore's call was overturned to out. Replays indicate that batter-runner Rocchio's hand appeared to be forced off the base by fielder Anderson, Moore's safe call was correct (albeit for a different reason) and the decision to overturn to out wastechnically correctpursuant to current replay regulations, but the outcome of an out call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 2-2. The Guardians ultimately won the contest, 4-2.

MLB Ejection 166 - Todd Tichenor (1; Terry Francona)

1B Umpire Todd Tichenor ejected Guardians manager Terry Francona (denied manager's challenge/replay review request; QOCY) in the top of the 1st inning of the #Guardians-#WhiteSox game. With one out and one on, Guardians batter Jose Ramirez hit a 1-0 changeup from White Sox pitcher Mike Clevinger on a fly ball to left fielder Zach Remillard, who threw to second baseman Jake Burger to first baseman Andrew Vaughn to double off Guardians baserunner R1 Steven Kwan. Francona was denied his manager's challenge after taking too long to signal a hold prior to requesting a review. Replay Review regulations require the manager signal holdimmediately after the conclusion of play; replays indicate Francona did not signal hold (hand up) until 11 seconds after the conclusion of play, the call (that Francona's challenge was untimely) was correct. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 0-0. The White Sox ultimately won the contest, 7-2.

With two out and two on (R1, R3), Guardians batter Straw took a 0-1 and 1-2 curveball from Twins pitcher Jhoan Duran for called second and third strikes. Replays indicate the pitch ruled strike two was located over the outer edge of home plate and above the hollow of the knee (px 0.63, pz 1.50 [sz_bot 1.60 / RAD 1.48]) and the pitch ruled strike three was located over the inner half of home plate and below the midpoint (px -0.43, pz 3.16 [sz_top 3.43 / RAD 3.55]) and that all other pitches during the at-bat were properly officiated, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Guardians were leading, 4-3. HP Umpire Ron Kulpa ejected Guardians manager Terry Francona (denied challenge request; QOCN) and Angels manager Phil Nevin (denied pitcher warmup pitches; QOCU) in the bottom of the 7th inning of the #Angels-#Guardians game. With two out and two on, Guardians batter Andres Gimenez attempted to check his swing on a 0-1 slider from Angels pitcher Ryan Tepera, ruled a ball by Kulpa and affirmed as no swing on appeal by 3B Umpire Clint Vondrak. Guardians manager Francona attempted to challenge the play on the basis that the pitch hit batter Gimenez's foot (HBP challenge), but his request was denied. Replays indicate Francona requested the review within the 20-second time limit to decide whether or not to challenge after the call is made, the call was incorrect. Following Francona's ejection and argument with Kulpa, Angels pitcher Tepera attempted to throw warm-up pitches on the mound, but was denied by Kulpa. HP Umpire Lance Barksdale ejected Guardians manager Terry Francona and 3B Umpire Alan Porter ejected Guardians CF Myles Straw (foul ball reversed to foul tip or swinging strike three call; QOCY) in the bottom of the 9th inning of the #Tigers-#Indians game. With one out and one on (R3), Indians batter Myles Straw attempted to hit a 2-2 slider from Tigers pitcher Joe Jimenez, originally ruled a foul ball by HP Umpire Barksdale, and reversed following crew consultation to a third strike. Replays do not conclusively indicate whether or not Straw's bat made contact with the baseball, but do conclusively show that Tigers catcher Tucker Barnhart ultimately caught the ball prior to the ball touching the ground; whether via foul tip or via swinging strike, the call of strike three/out was correct. At the time of the ejections, the Tigers were leading, 4-3. The Tigers ultimately won the contest, 4-3.

MLB Ejection 064 - Paul Emmel (1; Terry Francona)

3B Umpire Paul Emmel ejected Guardians manager Terry Francona (obstruction runner placement/penalty call by 2B Umpire Jeremie Rehak; QOCY) in the bottom of the 6th inning of the #Athletics-#Guardians game. With one out and one on, Guardians baserunner R1 Steven Kwan attempted to steal second base, drawing a throw from A's catcher Sean Murphy. The throw evaded A's shortstop Elvis Andrus and continued into center field, leading Kwan, who had slid into second base, to attempt to advance to third base, becoming entangled with Andrus and tripping, resulting in an obstruction call from 2B Umpire Rehak. Kwan returned to second base as A's center fielder Cristian Pache backed up the throw and retrieved the loose baseball. Replays indicate Andrus, while the defense was not actively making a play on the runner, obstructed Kwan (Type 2 or Type B), but that Kwan likely would not have safely achieved third base had obstruction not occurred, due to Pache's defense, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the A's were leading, 4-2. The Guardians ultimately won the contest, 8-4.

OBR 6.01(h) Comment: "After a fielder has made an attempt to field a ball and missed, they can no longer be in the 'act of fielding' the ball. For example: An infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes them and they continue to lie on the ground and delay the progress of the runner, they very likely have obstructed the runner."

Perez ran Johnson back to third base as trailing runner R1 Cesar Hernandez slid into third; Perez tagged both players, with Hoye ruling both runners out—following runner Hernandez for being tagged while two runners were in contact with the same base and preceding runner Johnson out as Johnson broke contact with third base after the initial tag attempt. Replays indicate following runner Hernandez was not tagged while preceding runner Johnson was also in contact with the base, while preceding runner Johnson was tagged while off his base, the call was incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 1-1.
