Heritage Square Information

Heritage Square is located in Historic Downtown Taylor at 400 N. Main Street and serves as homage to our rich cultural history. It is 1.67 acres and hosts multiple seating areas under shade, a walking path and historical markers.

History

In April, 1883, Ira H. Evans conveyed Block 22 to the Town of Taylor under the condition that it be maintained and preserved as a public park. Block 22 is 270 square feet and bounded by 5th and Porter, and 4th and Main Streets.  The park was named Heritage Square in 1986.  

Heritage Square Revitalization Project

In March, 2017, the City received a grant of $500,000 from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to fund improvements to both Heritage Park and to build a Downtown Skate Park.  

A Public Meeting was held May 2017 where the design firm was given additional direction regarding the design and the results were presented at a council meeting. The conceptual design incorporates elements approved as part of the City's Downtown Master Plan adopted in 2015. Proposed funding included $250,000 from the TPWD grant. 

The project was complete in January 2019. The newly renovated Heritage Square includes an amphitheater, a spray park, public art display, shade structures and landscaping to enhance the area.
