Safety DeAndre Houston-Carson, who reportedly agreed to terms with the Bears last week, has officially signed a one-year contract to return for a fifth season with the team.
Houston-Carson, 26, was selected by the Bears in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of William & Mary. He has appeared in 48 games the past four seasons, all as a reserve, and played predominantly on special teams.
"I'm happy to be back and hopefully we can get back to work pretty soon," Houston-Carson told ChicagoBears.com.
Last season Houston-Carson appeared in all 16 games for the first time in his career and tied for third on the Bears with six special-teams tackles.
The Bears view him as someone who is instrumental to their success on special teams, similar to a quarterback of the unit.
"I take a lot of pride in what I do in general," Houston-Carson said. "So whatever my role is I want to be the best at that. The last few years my primary role has been on special teams, and I just want to do everything that I can do to help is win games.
"I just want to play. I just want to win. Whatever that is. So far it's been special teams. It's all the game of football to me. I'm happy to have the opportunity to be out there and show what I can do regardless of what phase it is."
