Sharks' Carson Wetsch: Three points in WHL loss
RotowireWetsch scored a goal on six shots and added two assists in WHL Kelowna's 4-3 loss to Medicine Hat on Saturday.
Wetsch's goal was his first of the season in eight appearances. He's made up for it with eight helpers so far. He had 33 goals and 53 points in 68 regular-season games with WHL Calgary last year, so there could still be some adjusting to a new team. Wetsch can score, so it's only a matter of time before he gets a heftier total in the goal column.
... See More... See LessSharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Gives up two goals
RotowireAskarov stopped 26 of 28 shots in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Devils. The third goal was an empty-netter with 47 seconds left in the game.
Askarov allowed two power-play goals to New Jersey defenseman Dougie Hamilton, but turned in a valiant effort in Friday's defeat. By the time the Devils added a third goal, the 23-year-old netminder was already on the bench with theSharks pushing for a late equalizer. The Sharks have been rotating goalies this season, and Askarov hasn't been a very reliable option. In four starts, he's gone 0-3-1 with a 4.81 GAA and a poor .857 save percentage.
... See More... See LessSharks' William Eklund: Nets PP goal Friday
RotowireEklund scored a power-play goal in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Devils.
Eklund found the twine at the 2:25 mark of the first period with a snap shot following a set-up from Macklin Celebrini, but that would be all the offense theSharks would muster throughout the game. Eklund endured a slow start to the season but seems to be turning things around and has recorded four points (one goal, three assists), seven shots and a minus-2 rating over his last two games.
... See More... See LessSharks' Adam Gaudette: Earns 100th career point
RotowireGaudette scored a goal in Thursday's 6-5 overtime win over the Rangers.
Before theSharks' youngsters took over the game, Gaudette got things going with a tally just 1:58 into the first period. It was Gaudette's 100th career point, a milestone he reached in 308 games over parts of eight seasons. The 29-year-old has done a decent job in a bottom-six role to start 2025-26, earning three goals, one assist, nine shots on net, six PIM and a minus-4 rating over seven appearances.
... See More... See LessSharks' John Klingberg: Not playing Friday
RotowireKlingberg (lower body) will not be available Friday in New Jersey, according to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.
Klingberg will miss his fifth straight game. He had a goal and an assist in his first three games, with both points coming on the power play. His next chance to play will be Sunday when theSharks face the Wild in Minnesota.
... See More... See LessSharks' Nick Leddy: Out for remainder of road trip
RotowireLeddy (upper body) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Devils and Sunday's clash in Minnesota, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Leddy sustained an upper-body injury during Thursday's game against the Rangers, and he'll be unavailable for at least two matchups. Sam Dickinson will take his place in the lineup against New Jersey, while Leddy will be re-evaluated when theSharks return home.
... See More... See LessSharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Tending twine Friday
RotowireAskarov will patrol the visiting crease in New Jersey on Friday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
Askarov needs a good performance as he has allowed 17 goals on 105 shots (.838 save percentage) across three starts this year. The 23-year-old came into the season as theSharks' No. 1 goaltender, but another poor outing could get him sent to AHL San Jose. Askarov will face the Devils, who are tied for second in NHL scoring, averaging 4.00 goals.
... See More... See LessSharks' Dmitry Orlov: Two more assists Thursday
RotowireOrlov dished two assists, one on the power play, in Thursday's 6-5 overtime win over the Rangers.
The veteran blueliner had a hand in two of Macklin Celebrini's three goals on the night. Orlov has had a strong start to the season, and while he's still looking for his first goal as a Shark, he's churned out seven assists in seven contests, three of them coming with the man advantage.
... See More... See LessSharks' William Eklund: Three helpers in OT win
RotowireEklund picked up three assists, one on the power play, in Thursday's 6-5 overtime win over the Rangers.
The 23-year-old saw plenty of shifts alongside Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, and the trio combined for five goals and 12 points in a wild win at MSG. It was Eklund's first multi-point performance of the season, but there will be plenty more coming if he keeps that line assignment. Through seven games, Eklund has put together one goal and five points with 19 shots on net, seven blocked shots and six hits, but he also has a rough minus-8 rating.
... See More... See LessSharks' Will Smith: Four-point night includes GWG
RotowireSmith scored two goals, one the overtime winner, and added two assists in Thursday's 6-5 victory over the Rangers.
Smith scored his first two goals of the season and San Jose's final two tallies of the night, banging home a rebound early in the third period just after a two-man advantage had expired before ripping a one-timer past Igor Shesterkin in the extra frame. The 20-year-old Smith is showing signs of becoming a very effective Robin to Macklin Celebrini's Batman, and through seven games to begin the season, Smith has eight points.
... See More... See LessSharks' Macklin Celebrini: Second career hat trick in win
RotowireCelebrini scored three goals, one on the power play, and added two assists in Thursday's 6-5 overtime win over the Rangers.
TheSharks' young franchise player beat Igor Shesterkin twice in the first period and again in the second to record his second career hat trick, before helping to set up Will Smith for the team's final two tallies, including the OT winner. Celebrini nearly managed a point-a-game pace as a rookie last season, producing 63 points (25 goals, 38 assists) in 70 games, but he's blown past that to begin his sophomore campaign as he speeds toward superstardom, delivering five goals and 11 points in seven contests.
... See More... See LessSharks' Alex Nedeljkovic: Carried to first win by offense
RotowireNedeljkovic turned aside 22 shots in Thursday's 6-5 overtime win over the Rangers.
TheSharks struck early and often and took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission, but Nedeljkovic did his best to squander that lead, only for Will Smith to bail him out in OT. It was Nedeljkovic's first win of the season as he splits starts with Yaroslav Askarov in the early going, but the 29-year-old Nedeljkovic isn't doing much to earn that timeshare, going 1-2-1 with a 4.00 GAA and an .874 save percentage.
... See More... See LessSharks' Nick Leddy: Exits Thursday's game
RotowireLeddy (upper body) won't return to Thursday's game versus the Rangers.
Leddy sustained the injury early in the first period and was ruled out during the intermission. Per Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News, it was a hit by Will Cuylle that took Leddy out of the game. It's unclear if the defenseman will be able to play Friday versus the Devils -- if not, Sam Dickinson will likely draw back in.
... See More... See LessSharks' John Klingberg: Out again Thursday
RotowireKlingberg (lower body) won't play Thursday versus the Rangers, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
Klingberg is with theSharks on this road trip and has been on the ice lately, but he's set for a fourth straight absence. It's possible the Sharks don't want him playing both halves of a back-to-back, as he hasn't yet been ruled out for Friday's game against the Devils.
... See More... See LessSharks' Timothy Liljegren: Playing Thursday
RotowireLiljegren (upper body) will return to the lineup Thursday against the Rangers, per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.
Liljegren has been activated from injured reserve after missing the last three games. He has yet to hit the scoresheet in three appearances, but he does have 10 blocked shots and three hits this season.
... See More... See LessSharks' Alex Nedeljkovic: Slated to start Thursday
RotowireNedeljkovic was the first goaltender off the ice at morning skate and is expected to start on the road against the Rangers on Thursday, per Max Miller of NHL.com.
Nedeljkovic is 0-2-1 with a 3.69 GAA and an .890 save percentage this season, and he has been the better of theSharks' netminders as Yaroslav Askarov has struggled in the early going. The Rangers are 31st in NHL scoring and have scored only once in four home games in 2025-26.
