Flames' Hunter Brzustewicz: Nets two goals in AHL win
RotowireBrzustewicz scored twice in AHL Calgary's 4-3 win over Coachella Valley on Saturday.
Brzustewicz is showing plenty of offense early in the AHL campaign, logging three goals and three helpers over six contests. The 20-year-old defenseman still needs some time in the AHL, but if the strugglingFlames start selling early this year, he could be in line for a call-up, especially if Rasmus Andersson is one of the players on the move. Like Andersson, Brzustewicz is a right-shot defenseman.
... See More... See LessFlames' Sam Morton: Racks up three points for Wranglers
RotowireMorton scored twice on three shots and added an assist in AHL Calgary's 4-3 win over Coachella Valley on Saturday.
Morton needed a big game, as he had just one assist in the Wranglers' first five contests of the year. With four points in six games, he's unlikely to be near the top of the list of call-ups for theFlames. The 26-year-old is more likely to spend most or all of 2025-26 in the minors, though he made his NHL debut -- and scored his first goal -- with the Flames at the end of last season.
... See More... See LessFlames' Dryden Hunt: Reassigned to AHL
RotowireHunt was returned to AHL Calgary on Saturday.
Hunt was a healthy scratch Friday after he was recalled Thursday. The 29-year-old has two goals and four assists in four AHL contests this season.
... See More... See LessFlames' Clark Bishop: Nets two goals in loss
RotowireBishop scored twice in AHL Calgary's 5-4 loss to Coachella Valley on Friday.
Bishop is captaining the Wranglers this season and has three points through five games. The 29-year-old forward could get a call-up to theFlames at some point if injuries arise, but the big club has shown more of an interest in giving young players a look to begin 2025-26.
... See More... See LessFlames' Samuel Honzek: Earns first NHL point
RotowireHonzek logged an assist in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Jets.
Honzek got a look alongside Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman in this contest amid a line shuffle for theFlames. The 20-year-old Honzek helped out on Backlund's second-period tally, giving the young winger his first NHL point in 12 appearances. He's logged seven of those games this year, racking up 11 shots on net, 14 hits and a minus-3 rating. He's a big winger with a good shot, but he's still adjusting to the NHL level, so don't expect big scoring numbers just yet.
... See More... See LessFlames' Zayne Parekh: Nabs power-play helper
RotowireParekh registered a power-play assist in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Jets.
The helper was Parekh's first point in seven outings this year. TheFlames waived Daniil Miromanov, so it looks like Parekh has gained some job security in the lineup despite the team's overall lack of offense. Parekh has added nine shots on net, four blocked shots, two hits and a minus-3 rating so far. Until the Flames start scoring more, fantasy managers in redraft formats can likely find more productive blueliners than the 19-year-old, though his progress should still be monitored.
... See More... See LessFlames' Nazem Kadri: Lights lamp on power play
RotowireKadri scored a power-play goal on three shots and went minus-2 in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Jets.
The goal was Kadri's first of the campaign. He's earned four of his five points on the power play. Given the state of theFlames' offense, Kadri has done fairly well for himself so far. He's added 23 shots on net, five hits, three blocked shots, eight PIM and a minus-9 rating across nine appearances.
... See More... See LessFlames' Mikael Backlund: Notches two points in loss
RotowireBacklund scored a goal on four shots, added an assist and went plus-2 in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Jets.
Backlund earned his first multi-point effort of the season, though this was just the fourth time in nine games theFlames have scored multiple goals. The 36-year-old center remains in a middle-six role, but he may struggle to put up points on a low-scoring team. He's at three points, 17 shots on net, seven hits and a minus-3 rating across nine appearances this year.
... See More... See LessFlames' Blake Coleman: Puts up two points
RotowireColeman scored a goal on three shots, added an assist, logged two hits and went plus-2 in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Jets.
Coleman and Mikael Backlund set up each other's goals in this contest, but it wasn't enough to get theFlames out of their skid. Through nine contests, Coleman has three goals, one assist, 21 shots, 21 hits, seven blocked shots and a minus-1 rating. His steady two-way play is a positive, but there's not a lot of offense to go around in Calgary, so the 33-year-old is likely best suited for fantasy managers in deeper formats.
... See More... See LessFlames' Dustin Wolf: Surrenders four goals
RotowireWolf stopped 27 of 31 shots in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Jets. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Wolf wasn't able to hold the Jets back in a four-goal second period, though two of them came on the power play. He's allowed four or more goals in four of his eight outings this season, leading to a 3.68 GAA and an .874 save percentage in addition to a 1-6-1 record. TheFlames haven't had many easy matchups so far, but it may be best for fantasy managers to deploy Wolf against weaker teams. One such game could be up next, as the Flames host the low-scoring Rangers on Sunday.
... See More... See LessFlames' Dustin Wolf: Between pipes Friday
RotowireWolf will defend the visiting crease in Winnipeg on Friday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Wolf is turning his season around thanks to a pair of good performances in which he gave up four goals on 55 shots. He struggled before that, allowing 20 goals on 137 shots (.854 save percentage) over five games. Wolf is 1-5-1 this season. The Jets dropped a 3-0 decision to Seattle on Thursday and could be tired in the second game of back-to-back contests.
... See More... See LessFlames' Dryden Hunt: Back in NHL
RotowireHunt was recalled from AHL Calgary on Thursday.
TheFlames are in desperate need of goal scoring as they have only 12 goals in eight games this season. Hunt had two goals and four assists in four AHL games before his recall. He may not be the answer to their offensive woes, but Hunt will certainly provide a spark as he had 73 hits in 28 regular-season games with Calgary last season.
... See More... See LessFlames' Adam Klapka: Nets lone goal in overtime loss
RotowireKlapka scored a goal on three shots, added two PIM and doled out four hits in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Canadiens.
Klapka was the beneficiary of the turnover created by Morgan Frost. The goal was Klapka's first of the season to go with two assists across eight games, which is decent production for a fourth-liner on a low-scoring team. He's added eight shots, 30 hits, 18 PIM and a plus-1 rating. Unless his role increases, Klapka can be left on the waiver wire in most formats.
... See More... See LessFlames' Dustin Wolf: Another hard-luck defeat
RotowireWolf stopped 26 of 28 shots in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Canadiens.
For the second game in a row, Wolf did his best to limit the damage but didn't get enough scoring support from his teammates. He's now 1-5-1 on the year, but his individual performance has improved after a bumpy stretch early in the season. Wolf should continue seeing plenty of starts for theFlames, as he gives them their best chance to win. However, fantasy managers chasing wins will have a tough time getting them from the 24-year-old as long as Calgary's offense remains putrid. The Flames' next game is a challenging one on the road in Winnipeg on Friday.
... See More... See LessFlames' Dustin Wolf: Starting against Montreal
RotowireWolf will start Wednesday's home game against the Canadiens, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Wolf has lost each of his last five starts, posting a 4.17 GAA and an .853 save percentage during that time. He'll attempt to bounce back in Wednesday's outing but will face a tough test, as the Canadiens rank fifth in the NHL with 3.57 goals per game this season.
