Dakota Joshua cut across the slot and shot past the netminder's glove from the left faceoff dot. Luukkonen's return creates a logjam in the net for theSabres, but he's a good bet to become the team's top option again over Alex Lyon and Colten Ellis (back).

Byram scored a goal Saturday in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs.

His point shot found its way through a crowd and past Cayden Primeau. Byram has strung together a three-game, three-point scoring streak (one goal, two assists), and he has four points (three assists) in nine contests this season. He needs to step up his offense in order to be a valuable fantasy asset.

Thompson scored two goals in a 4-3 overtime loss to Toronto on Saturday.

Thompson put theSabres up 1-0 with a wrist shot in the first, and he pushed the score to 3-2 in the third with a power-play goal. However, the Sabres weren't able to hold onto either lead. Thompson has put up back-to-back two-point games (three goals, one assist), and he has eight points (four goals, four assists) in nine games on the season. He's also wired 37 shots, a pace that would see him top 300 shots for the first time in his career.

Ellis is day-to-day due to tightness in his back, Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News reports Saturday.

Ellis was originally expected to start in Saturday's road game against Toronto, but he missed that assignment due to his injury. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen got the nod instead and stopped 18 of 22 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss. Even if Ellis ends up being an option for Tuesday's home game against Columbus, it's not clear if he'll play between the pipes. In addition to Ellis and Luukkonen, Buffalo also has goaltender Alex Lyon on the roster, so there's plenty of competition for starts.

Ellis (undisclosed) will miss Saturday's road game against Toronto, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Ellis was originally going to start Saturday, according to Friedman, but he's not 100 percent. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) will make his season debut instead after being activated off injured reserve Thursday. Ellis won his NHL debut Wednesday, stopping 29 of 31 shots against Detroit.

Luukkonen will guard the road goal against Toronto on Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Luukkonen will make his season debut because Colten Ellis (undisclosed) is unavailable. The 26-year-old Luukkonen had a 24-24-5 record with two shutouts, a 3.20 GAA and an .887 save percentage across 55 appearances during the 2024-25 regular season. After missing the first seven games of the year due to a lower-body injury, he was the backup netminder behind Alex Lyon in Friday's 5-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

Kozak (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports.

TheSabres recalled Josh Dunne from the minors in a corresponding move. Kozak will be out for at least one week, but the team isn't sure when he will be ready to return. The 22-year-old forward has two goals, five shots on net, four blocked shots and 19 hits through seven appearances this season.

Dunne was summoned from AHL Rochester on Saturday.

Tyson Kozak (lower body) won't play Saturday against Toronto after exiting Friday's 5-3 win over the Maple Leafs. Dunne's promotion gives the team 13 healthy forwards on the roster. He might spend the rematch against Toronto in the press box, but he could plug into the lineup in a bottom-six capacity if Buffalo wants to rest a forward. Dunne has no points and three hits in two appearances with theSabres in 2025-26.

Helenius scored twice on six shots and added two assists in AHL Rochester's 4-0 win over Laval on Friday.

Prior to Friday, Helenius was off to a slow start. He now has five points and 19 shots over six games with the Americans. The 19-year-old is playing above his age group, but it would still look good if he can improve on the 14-goal, 35-point performance he had for Rochester over 65 regular-season games in 2024-25.

Levi posted a 19-save shutout in AHL Rochester's 4-0 win over Laval on Friday.

Levi has been tasked with dominating the AHL this season, and he's off to a 3-0-0 start. He's allowed seven goals on 76 shots over his first three games, but he also posted his first shutout of the season Friday, which was the eighth of his AHL career. TheSabres are carrying three goalies on the NHL roster now that Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is healthy -- until that logjam is cleared, Levi will remain in Rochester.

Kulich scored a goal, dished an assist, blocked two shots and went plus-3 in Friday's 5-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

Kulich has scored three times over the last five games, and his helper was the first of the year. The 21-year-old is working on building chemistry with Tage Thompson on the top line, and if that partnership sticks, it could boost Kulich's fantasy profile. With four points, 16 shots, 10 blocks and a minus-4 rating over eight appearances, the 21-year-old is already trending toward carrying value in deeper formats.

Tuch scored a shorthanded goal on two shots, dished an assist, blocked four shots and went plus-2 in Friday's 5-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

Tuch's goal provided some insurance in the third period. He also helped out on the first of Mattias Samuelsson's two tallies in the contest. Tuch's slow start was a product of theSabres' scoring woes -- all seven of his points have come over the last six games since the team has started to turn things around. He's added 23 shots on net, 13 blocks, six PIM and a plus-3 rating over eight appearances as he continues to provide quality defensive work on the wing.

Thompson helped out on a Jiri Kulich goal in the first period before scoring one of his own in the second. The tally was just the second of the season for Thompson, who has a pair of 40-goal seasons under his belt. He's opened 2025-26 with six points, 32 shots, 17 hits, five blocks, 10 PIM and a minus-4 rating over eight appearances in a top-line role.

Samuelsson scored twice on three shots, blocked four shots and went plus-4 in Friday's 5-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

This was Samuelsson's first career multi-goal game in the NHL. He had scored just seven goals total in his first five NHL campaigns. The 25-year-old defenseman is off to a positive start with four points, seven shots, 16 blocks, nine hits and a plus-3 rating across six appearances this season. He's done enough to make himself a regular in the lineup, though fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to repeat this performance any time soon.

Lyon stopped 29 of 32 shots in Friday's 5-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

Lyon did well enough to hold off Toronto in the first game of the two teams' home-and-home set this weekend. This was his third win in his last four outings. The 32-year-old is now 3-4-0 with a 2.61 GAA and a .922 save percentage across seven starts this season. TheSabres didn't announce their goaltending plans for Saturday's game in Toronto, but it could be the season debut of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who was removed from injured reserve Thursday.

Kozak (lower body) won't be in the lineup for Saturday's game versus the Maple Leafs, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.

Kozak was hurt in the first period of Friday's game against Toronto. TheSabres are pondering a recall, though they could shift Peyton Krebs over to center and dress Mason Geertsen to ice a full lineup. The 22-year-old Kozak is day-to-day pending further tests on his injury.
