Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Monday thatGonzalez (shoulder) has yet to begin baseball activities, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Gonzalez injured his left shoulder late last regular season and was given a platelet-rich plasma injection in January after experiencing renewed discomfort. The Red Sox are hopeful that he will be ready in time for Opening Day, but there seems to be some uncertainty about Gonzalez's status. Once he's ready, the right-handed-hitting Gonzalez is slated to see regular playing time against left-handed pitching.

Gonzalez dealt with left shoulder inflammation much of the offseason and is expected to be limited at the start of spring training, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Gonzalez initially injured his left shoulder in the final series of the regular season against the Tigers back in September before going 1-for-9 at the plate in the wild-card series loss to the Yankees. Gonzalez didn't require any sort of offseason surgery but did receive a PRP injection after experiencing discomfort after swinging the bat in January. Gonzalez is aiming to be ready for Opening Day and is once again expected to fill a utility role for Boston this season.

Gonzalez agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million contract with theRed Sox on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

After enjoying a breakout season in his first year with the Red Sox in 2024, Gonzalez continued to improve in '25 and finished the regular season with a .305/.343/.483 slash line alongside nine homers, 53 RBI, 47 runs scored and six steals across 341 plate appearances. He'll receive an $826,000 raise as a reward for his continued progression and enters 2026 as the frontrunner for regular reps at second base for Boston.

Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Gonzalez was seeing consistent run at second base, though this is now his second consecutive absence to close out the regular season. The 29-year-old has proven to be an excellent fit with theRed Sox, as he's slashed .290/.329/.457 over the past two regular seasons, and if he's healthy he figures to serve as a starter in the playoffs.

Gonzalez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Gonzalez will stay put in the dugout Saturday following theRed Sox's postseason-clinching victory Friday. Nick Sogard will fill in as Boston's second baseman and bat ninth.

Gonzalez is absent from the lineup for Thursday's tilt against the Athletics.

The right-handed-hitting Gonzalez has seen more and more reps versus righties lately -- in addition to his regular starts against lefties -- but he'll take a seat for this one as the Athletics send righty J.T. Ginn to the bump. David Hamilton is at second base and batting seventh for theRed Sox.

Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Yankees.

Gonzalez extended a hit streak to 14 games and did it early with a run-scoring double as part of Boston's six-run first inning. He's batting .434 (23-for-56) with a .954 OPS and 10 RBI during the streak. He was primarily a regular against left-handers earlier in the season, but due to injuries and slumping teammates, Gonzalez has recently been given opportunities against righties.

The 28-year-old will hit the bench for the Red Sox's third straight matchup versus a righty starter (Tomoyuki Sugano) and looks as though he'll be limited to the short side of a platoon with Lowe for the foreseeable future.
