2m agoAbreu went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs and an RBI double in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Rangers.
Abreu's two solo home runs came in the fourth and seventh frames, and he added a third RBI in the sixth with a double that brought Alex Bregman home. It was Abreu's second multi-homer game of the season (with the first coming Opening Day, also against the Rangers) and the sixth time he has recorded three hits. Abreu has gone 7-for-12 with three home runs and four RBI over his last three games.
- Matt Sauer LAD RP
Dodgers' Matt Sauer: Earns first major-league save
11m agoSauer came away with the save in Wednesday's 10-1 win over the Marlins, allowing one run on one hit and one walk while striking out four across four innings.
TheDodgers needed only two pitchers Wednesday, with Landon Knack serving as the starter before Sauer relieved him to toss the final four innings. Sauer's lone blemish came in the ninth frame on a sacrifice fly by Jesus Sanchez, but the former finished the game with seven whiffs on 42 pitches (31 strikes) to register the first save of his major-league career. Sauer should continue to serve in the Dodgers' bullpen as a bulk reliever after Evan Phillips (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list, but the former made three starts with Triple-A Oklahoma City and is capable of stepping in as a spot starter.
- Derek Hill MIA CF
Marlins' Derek Hill: Starts up rehab assignment
18m agoHill began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, serving as the club's designated hitter and going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in a 6-5 loss to Syracuse in 11 innings.
Hill initially sprained his left wrist while making a diving catch in an April 8 game, but he continued playing with theMarlins for more than a week before being placed on the injured list April 18. After making it through workouts in recent days without issue, Hill was cleared for a rehab assignment, though it's not clear how long he'll remain with Jacksonville. The Marlins will presumably want to have Hill make at least one start in the outfield in the minors before bringing him back from the IL.
- James Outman LAD CF
Dodgers' James Outman: Smacks pinch hit homer
19m agoOutman went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a three-run home run in Wednesday's 10-1 win over the Marlins.
Outman pinch hit for Max Muncy in the seventh hitting, with the former drawing a walk before being brought home on a Hyeseong Kim RBI single. Outman added to theDodgers' lead in the ninth inning with a three-run homer to center field. It was his first major-league home run of the season, and the 27-year-old outfielder should continue to see playing time in the outfield while Teoscar Hernandez (adductor) is on the 10-day injured list.
- Freddie Freeman LAD 1B
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Base-clearing triple vs. Miami
24m agoFreeman went 3-for-4 with one run scored, one triple and four RBI in Wednesday's 10-1 win over the Marlins.
Freeman got theDodgers on the board in the sixth inning with an RBI single, and he added to the lead in the seventh frame with a bases-clearing RBI triple before being brought home by Andy Pages. Freeman has been on fire at the plate and is in the midst of a 12-game hitting streak, going 22-for-46 (.478) with 11 runs scored, four home runs and 18 RBI over that span.
- Tim Anderson LAA SS
Angels' Tim Anderson: Shifts back to reserve role
28m agoAnderson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
Anderson made three straight starts at second base this past weekend, but he's shifted back to a bench role for theAngels' first two games against the Blue Jays after the team welcomed Yoan Moncada back from the injured list. His playing time could be limited moving forward while the quartet of Nolan Schanuel, Luis Rengifo, Zach Neto and Moncada typically makes up the Angels' starting infield against both right- and left-handed pitching.
- J.T. Realmuto PHI C
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Exits with bruised foot
40m agoRealmuto was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rays due to a left foot contusion, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Realmuto fouled a ball off his foot during his at-bat in the seventh inning, but initial evaluations indicate that he only suffered a bruise due to the incident. ThePhillies plan on running some additional tests just to make sure no severe damage was done, but the 34-year-old backstop can be considered day-to-day for now.
- Eric Haase MIL C
Brewers' Eric Haase: Goes yard Wednesday
5h agoHaase went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 9-1 loss to the Astros.
The 32-year-old spoiled Framber Valdez's shutout bid by taking the lefty deep in the fifth inning. Haase has seen infrequent playing time so far this season, but he's been productive when called up, batting .292 (7-for-24) with two homers, four RBI and six runs in 13 games. With William Contreras attempting to play through a fractured finger in his glove hand, Haase's usage could be set to tick up.
- Edgar Quero CHW C
White Sox's Edgar Quero: Not in lineup Wednesday
5h agoQuero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Kansas City.
Quero had started the last three games and five of the past six contests, but he will get a breather Wednesday. Matt Thaiss will start at catcher and will bat cleanup.
- Elias Diaz SD C
Padres' Elias Diaz: Heading to bench for series finale
6h agoDiaz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Though he'll be on the bench for the series finale while Martin Maldonado gets a turn behind the plate, Diaz seems to have re-established himself as thePadres' top backstop. Diaz started at catcher in each of the past three games, going 4-for-10 with a solo home run.
- Sean Murphy ATL C
Braves' Sean Murphy: Exiting starting nine
6h agoMurphy is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Reds.
For a sixth series in a row, Murphy will have started the first two games before giving way to Drake Baldwin in the third contest. Baldwin will step in behind the plate and bat eighth Wednesday.
- Freddy Fermin KC C
Royals' Freddy Fermin: Taking seat Wednesday
6h agoFermin is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.
With Salvador Perez having been limited exclusively to designated hitter and first base so far this month while he's been managing a hip issue, Fermin has temporarily settled in as theRoyals' No. 1 backstop. After playing behind the dish in five of the last six games, Fermin will get a breather Wednesday, paving the way for Luke Maile to handle the catching duties while Perez plays first base.
- Romy Gonzalez BOS 1B
Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Exits after collision
1h agoGonzalez was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rangers after a collision with Josh Smith, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Gonzalez was down on the ground for a few minutes immediately after running into Smith, but the former was able to walk it off. He then jogged out to play first base at the top of the seventh inning but was quickly called back into the dugout in favor of Abraham Toro. The fact that Gonzalez was willing to go back out on defense is a good sign that his removal was precautionary, but theRed Sox should offer some clarity after the game.
- Christian Encarnacion-Strand CIN 1B
Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Will ramp up soon
4h agoReds manager Terry Francona said Wednesday thatEncarnacion-Strand (back) is "continuing to take steps" forward in his recovery process and could begin ramping up his baseball activities next week, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports.
After recently getting a second epidural injection to address his lower back inflammation, Encarnacion-Strand has reported improvement with his condition. Per MLB.com, Encarnacion-Strand has already been swinging off a tee and doing some running in the field, and he could soon incorporate more hitting and fielding in his workouts. The Reds haven't provided a definitive target date for Encarnacion-Strand's return from the 10-day injured list, but he's unlikely to be ready to rejoin the big club until the second half of May at the soonest.
- Jonathan Aranda TB 1B
Rays' Jonathan Aranda: Idle against southpaw
6h agoAranda is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
The left-handed-hitting Aranda will hit the bench while the Phillies send southpaw Cristopher Sanchez to the mound Wednesday. Aranda isn't in a strict platoon at first base, though he's now sat in three of theRays' last four matchups with lefties.
- Jac Caglianone KC 1B
Royals' Jac Caglianone: Two-homer game
7h agoCaglianone went 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI and a strikeout in Tuesday's game for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Caglianone has now homered in three straight games and is up to eight homers in 28 games. He is slashing .330/.406/.606 with an 11.7 percent walk rate, a 23.4 percent strikeout rate and a 39.4 percent hard-hit rate. Caglianone's last two starts have come at his natural position of first base, but he has picked up four starts in right field in the last two weeks in an effort to open up another path to 2025 playing time with the big club.
- Nick Kurtz ATH 1B
Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Exiting starting nine
9h agoKurtz is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Mariners.
It's Kurtz's second day off since his promotion in late April and the first time he's been out of the lineup against a right-hander. The rookie has been better so far in May (.278/.417/.389, 7:5 K:BB) after a sluggish April (.250/.240/.250, 12:0 K:BB) but is still looking for his first major-league home run. Tyler Soderstrom is handling first base Wednesday for theAthletics while Seth Brown patrols left field.
- Santiago Espinal CIN 2B
Reds' Santiago Espinal: Primed for everyday role
4h agoEspinal will start at third base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
Espinal will pick up his eighth straight start Wednesday and his third in a row at third base, which could be his primary home for the foreseeable future after Noelvi Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 2 oblique strain. The 30-year-old has recorded at least one hit in each of his previous seven starts to lift his average up to .333 over 87 at-bats. Espinal could continue to occupy a spot in the heart of the lineup while he's swinging a hot bat and while theReds are without multiple key hitters due to injuries.
- Nico Hoerner CHC 2B
Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Scores lone run Wednesday
5h agoHoerner went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Giants.
Hoerner was one of Chicago's lone offensive bright spots Wednesday, as he recorded half of the team's hits and the only run. The infielder has been mostly a singles hitter this year, with only eight extra-base hits and no home runs among his 38 hits overall, but he's still been fairly productive with a .281 batting average. Hoerner has also chipped in seven stolen bases in nine attempts, which is his main source of fantasy value.
- Gabriel Arias CLE 2B
Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Four hits in Wednesday's win
6h agoArias went 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Nationals.
Getting the start at second base and batting fifth, Arias delivered his third multi-hit performance in the last four games, and the first four-hit effort of his career. The recent surge has boosted the 25-year-old infielder's slash line to .287/.339/.452 on the season with four homers, two steals, 16 RBI and 19 runs in 35 contests.
- Kyle Farmer COL 2B
Rockies' Kyle Farmer: On bench Wednesday
7h agoFarmer is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
Adael Amador will get the nod at second base Wednesday, but Farmer still may rank as theRockies' preferred option at the keystone. Farmer had been included in the lineup in three of the team's previous four games, while Amador started just once during that stretch.
- Leonardo Rivas SEA 2B
Mariners' Leo Rivas: Filling bench role with Moore back
8h agoRivas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.
The 27-year-old had started at second base six times over a seven-game stretch from April 27 through Monday, but his time as a regular in the Seattle lineup appears to be over after Dylan Moore (hip) returned from the injured list Tuesday. Rivas will hit the bench for the second straight day while Moore picks up the start at the keystone.
- Nolan Gorman STL 2B
Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Enters lineup as replacement
9h agoGorman entered Wednesday's lineup versus the Pirates after Nolan Arenado was scratched, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Gorman had been set to sit out his third game over the last four contests, but Arenado's undisclosed injury gives him a reprieve. The 24-year-old Gorman is just 2-for-27 at the dish over his last 10 games.
- Jeimer Candelario CIN 3B
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Gets injection for back
4h agoReds manager Terry Francona said Wednesday thatCandelario (spine) received an epidural to address his lumbar strain, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports.
Francona noted that Candelario has made no notable progress in his recovery since landing on the injured list last Wednesday, and the Reds will wait for the injection to take full effect before determining his next steps. Before being shut down with the injury, the veteran corner infielder had gotten off to a miserable start to the season, slashing just .113/.198/.213 with a 31.9 percent strikeout rate over 91 plate appearances.
- Noelvi Marte CIN 3B
Reds' Noelvi Marte: Recovering from Grade 2 strain
4h agoReds manager Terry Francona said thatMarte's placement on injured list Wednesday was due to a Grade 2 left oblique strain, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports.
Marte is eligible for activation May 15, but because he's dealing with a moderate strain rather than a mild one, he will most likely be sidelined beyond the minimum 10 days. A more precise timeline for Marte's return should emerge once he's able to resume baseball activities. Santiago Espinal will start at third base in Wednesday's game against Atlanta and will likely receive the bulk of the playing time at the position while Marte is on the shelf.
- Jace Jung DET 3B
Tigers' Jace Jung: Sitting Wednesday
5h agoJung isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Colorado.
Jung will get an opportunity to regroup Wednesday after going 1-for-16 with five strikeouts over his last seven games. Zach McKinstry will shift to the hot corner to fill in for Jung, who could be on his way back to Triple-A Toledo if he doesn't rediscover his swing soon.
- Ezequiel Duran TEX 3B
Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Promotion imminent
5h agoTheRangers are expected to recallDuran from Triple-A Round Rock ahead of Thursday's game against the Red Sox, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Texas has already placed Kevin Pillar (back) on the injured list in a corresponding move, but since Duran isn't scheduled to arrive in Boston prior to Wednesday's contest, the Rangers will wait until Thursday to make his promotion official. Duran will offer depth at all four infield spots and both corner-outfield spots and will likely see most of his starts against left-handed pitching. He had been on the fire at the plate since being optioned to Triple-A on April 20, slashing .346/.393/.673 with four home runs and five stolen bases over 13 games.
- Tyler Wade SD 3B
Padres' Tyler Wade: Set to lose playing time
6h agoWade is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Wade had started in 15 of thePadres' previous 17 games, with most of his playing time coming in center field. He'll be ticketed for a backup role in the outfield moving forward after the Padres welcomed Jackson Merrill back from the injured list Tuesday, and Wade's opportunities to play in the middle infield will also soon become limited with Jake Cronenworth (rib) on track to be activated this weekend.
- Coby Mayo BAL 3B
Orioles' Coby Mayo: Sitting out Wednesday
6h agoMayo is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Minnesota.
Mayo started both of the previous two games, but he's now been in theOrioles' lineup in just half of the team's contests since being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday. He looks like he'll have to split time at the hot corner with Emmanuel Rivera, who draws the nod Wednesday.
- Angel Genao CLE SS
Guardians' Angel Genao: Ready for sim games
1h agoGenao (shoulder) is scheduled to begin participating in simulated games at theGuardians' spring training facility as early as next week, SI.com reports.
The switch-hitting shortstop has been sidelined all season after spraining his right shoulder during spring training. He remains on Double-A Akron's 7-day injured list, but he should be ready to make his Eastern League debut in the coming weeks. If Genao's shoulder responds well to playing in simulated games, he's then expected to begin a rehab assignment with the Guardians' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate.
- Jeremy Pena HOU SS
Astros' Jeremy Pena: Productive from leadoff spot
5h agoPena went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI in Wednesday's 9-1 win over the Brewers.
The big blow from the shortstop was a three-run blast in the sixth inning off Elvin Rodriguez, Pena's fifth long ball of the season. After a sluggish start to the season at the plate, Pena has hit safely in 24 of the last 26 games, boosting his slash line on the season to .279/.340/.434 with five steals, 16 RBI and 19 runs.
- C.J. Abrams WAS SS
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Getting busy on basepaths
5h agoAbrams went 3-for-6 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Guardians.
The shortstop is up to eight steals in 10 attempts on the season, but half of those attempts have come in the last five games. Abrams has also reached base in 13 straight contests, giving him more opportunities to use his legs -- during that hot streak he's batting .340 (18-for-53) with five walks and three HBPs. His power stroke, however, has gone quiet. Abrams has yet to hit a home run since returning from a hip issue in late April, and after slugging a career-high 20 homers in 2024, the 24-year-old has gone yard only twice through his first 25 games in 2025.
- Chase Meidroth CHW SS
White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Grabbing seat Wednesday
6h agoMeidroth is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.
Meidroth had a costly dropped popup in Tuesday's 4-3 loss, although it's not clear whether that's the reason he's not starting Wednesday. Jacob Amaya will fill in at shortstop and bat ninth for theWhite Sox, while Joshua Palacios has been elevated to the leadoff spot in Meidroth's absence.
- Taylor Walls TB SS
Rays' Taylor Walls: Playing time trending up
6h agoWalls will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Walls will make his fourth straight start, with theRays going up against two lefties and two righties during that span. The defensive-minded Walls owns a measly .504 OPS on the season and appeared to have fallen behind Jose Caballero on the depth chart at shortstop, but a surprise 4-for-5 performance in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Yankees might have enabled Walls to regain some job security.
- Wilyer Abreu BOS RF
Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Belts two homers Wednesday
2m agoAbreu went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs and an RBI double in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Rangers.
Abreu's two solo home runs came in the fourth and seventh frames, and he added a third RBI in the sixth with a double that brought Alex Bregman home. It was Abreu's second multi-homer game of the season (with the first coming Opening Day, also against the Rangers) and the sixth time he has recorded three hits. Abreu has gone 7-for-12 with three home runs and four RBI over his last three games.
- Jo Adell LAA CF
Angels' Jo Adell: Sits for fourth time in five games
33m agoAdell is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
TheAngels are giving Logan O'Hoppe a day off from catching but are keeping his bat in the lineup at designated hitter. As a result, Adell will be the odd man out of the lineup, as the Angels' usual DH, Jorge Soler, will cover right field. Even though the Angels lost Mike Trout (knee) to the injured list Friday, Adell's playing-time outlook has worsened over the past week. He's on the bench for the fourth time in five games, and the Angels seem to be prioritizing Kyren Paris and possibly even Gustavo Campero (ankle) ahead of Adell.
- Juan Soto NYM RF
Mets' Juan Soto: Two homers in win
2h agoSoto went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs and three total RBI in Wednesday's 7-1 win over Arizona.
Soto snapped a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a 427-foot blast off Merrill Kelly before launching a second solo shot off lefty Jalen Beeks in the eighth. Soto would then cap the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the ninth. It's the second multi-homer game this year for Soto (both coming against Arizona), who's up to seven long balls this season. He's gone 9-for-26 (.346) with six extra-base hits in his last seven contests, boosting his slash line to .261/.385/.478 with 17 RBI, 29 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases across 169 plate appearances.
- Manuel Margot DET CF
Tigers' Manuel Margot: Activated, outrighted to Triple-A
3h agoTheTigers reinstatedMargot (knee) from the injured list Wednesday and outrighted him to Triple-A Toledo.
Margot has been out since mid-April due to a strained patellar tendon in his left knee. He began a rehab assignment in Triple-A on April 29, and has gone 4-for-16 with an RBI and a run scored in five games. Now fully healthy, he'll remain in the Tigers' farm system but lose his spot on the 40-man roster.
- Landon Knack LAD SP
Dodgers' Landon Knack: Five scoreless frames in spot start
29m agoKnack (2-0) earned the win against the Marlins on Wednesday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out five across five scoreless innings.
Knack was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of Wednesday's start. He ended up going five frames while tossing 75 pitches (49 strikes) and generating nine whiffs, and Matt Sauer finished things off for theDodgers with a four-inning save. Knack now has a 4.61 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 12:7 K:BB across 13.2 innings, and he could stick around with the big club as a spot starter or bulk reliever.
- Dylan Cease SD SP
Padres' Dylan Cease: Exits with trainer
1h agoCease was pulled from his start Wednesday against the Yankees due to an apparent injury, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.
Cease took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but his night quickly changed after he allowed a game-tying home run to Cody Bellinger and left the game alongside a trainer later in the frame. It's not immediately clear what Cease is dealing with, but thePadres should provide an explanation relatively soon.
- Valente Bellozo MIA SP
Marlins' Valente Bellozo: Fans seven in no-decision
1h agoBellozo did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Dodgers, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings.
Bellozo faced the minimum number of batters in three innings Wednesday, generating 10 whiffs on 76 pitches (44 strikes). He was lifted in the sixth inning to avoid a third matchup against the top of the Dodgers' lineup. It ended up backfiring, as Cade Gibson gave up the first run of the game and theMarlins' bullpen ceded 10 runs. Wednesday may have been Bellozo's last turn in the rotation if Ryan Weathers (forearm) is activated from the 15-day injured list.
- Corbin Burnes ARI SP
Diamondbacks' Corbin Burnes: Deemed ready to start Saturday
1h agoDiamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed thatBurnes (shoulder) has been cleared to make his next start Saturday versus the Dodgers at Chase Field, Alex D'Agostino of SI.com reports. "As we anticipated, Saturday's looking really, really good," Lovullo said of Burnes' status.
Burnes wasn't able to start Monday's series opener against the Mets as initially planned after he was diagnosed with a right shoulder inflammation following an MRI on Friday. Though Burnes looked to be at risk of landing on the 15-day injured list, his shoulder responded well to a cortisone injection, and Lovullo relayed that the right-hander checked off the final box in his recovery by completing a bullpen session Wednesday. Despite Burnes receiving a clean bill of health, fantasy managers in shallower leagues may want to tread carefully with him during his upcoming start. In addition to drawing a tough matchup versus a potent Dodgers lineup, Burnes' underlying numbers (4.64 SIERA, career-low 7.9 K-BB%) through his first six starts of the season have been far from the ace-level production that the Diamondbacks would have hoped for after signing him to a $210 million contract this winter.
- Hunter Greene CIN SP
Reds' Hunter Greene: Exits with injury
2h agoGreene was removed from his start Wednesday against Atlanta due to a right groin injury, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports.
Greene made it through three innings with six strikeouts and zero runs scored against him, but he seemingly injured himself while warming up ahead of the fourth. TheReds' training staff will take a closer look at him to determine the severity of his injury, and there should be an update on his status in the near future. As of now, the 25-year-old righty is lined up to make his next start against the White Sox on Tuesday.
- Gunnar Hoglund ATH SP
Athletics' Gunnar Hoglund: Solid in second outing
2h agoHoglund did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Mariners, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.
Hoglund was sharp early Wednesday, as he held Seattle scoreless through his first four innings. However, he'd allow a run in the fifth before walking two batters in the sixth, both of whom would come around to score against the A's bullpen. Despite the shaky finish, Hoglund's gotten off to a strong start in his big-league career, posting a 2.38 ERA with 10 strikeouts and just one walk through his first two starts (11.1 innings). The 25-year-old Hoglund certainly appears to have done enough to remain in the A's rotation -- he'd line up for a tough road matchup with the Dodgers in his next start.
- Andres Munoz SEA RP
Mariners' Andres Munoz: Notches 13th save
2h agoMunoz earned the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the A's, allowing one hit while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.
After taking his first blown save of the year in the 10th inning of his last appearance, Munoz responded with a strong effort Wednesday to close out a one-run victory, picking up his 13th save this season, good for second-most in the majors. The 26-year-old Munoz has yet to allow an earned run through his first 18 innings, posting a pristine 0.83 WHIP with 25:8 K:BB.
- Dillon Tate TOR RP
Blue Jays' Dillon Tate: Optioned to Buffalo
4h agoTheBlue Jays optionedTate to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.
Since being promoted from Triple-A on April 20, Tate has surrendered three runs while logging a 7:6 K:BB in 5.1 innings across five appearances. He'll now head back to Buffalo to make room for Braydon Fisher, who was selected to the active roster in a corresponding move.
- Hunter Harvey KC RP
Royals' Hunter Harvey: Slowing down rehab
4h agoHarvey (shoulder) came away from his most recent live batting practice session Tuesday with a bit of soreness, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Manager Matt Quatraro said the team is going to ease up a bit on Harvey's progression and will go back to having the 30-year-old righty throw standard bullpen sessions. Once he's able to pitch without triggering any soreness, he'll likely resume work against live hitters.
- Ryan Walker SF RP
Giants' Ryan Walker: Rebounds for seventh save
4h agoWalker earned the save in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Cubs, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning.
Walker failed to convert a save in Tuesday's contest, allowing the Cubs to tie the game with two runs on a hit and two walks in the ninth inning. However, Walker was called upon to close out a two-run lead again Wednesday. He'd give up a leadoff hit to Carson Kelly before inducing a double-play ball off the bat of Justin Turner en route to his seventh save of the year. Walker's had a few tough outings early in the season, though he remains the preferred ninth-inning option for San Francisco. Overall, his ERA sits at 6.08 with a 1.35 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB across 13.1 innings.
- Matt Sauer LAD RP
Dodgers' Matt Sauer: Rejoins big club
5h agoTheDodgers recalledSauer from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Though he was optioned to Triple-A after tossing five innings of one-run ball while working in bulk relief in last Tuesday's win over the Marlins, Sauer was able to rejoin the Dodgers before the minimum 15 days lapsed because Los Angeles placed reliever Evan Phillips (forearm) on the injured list in a corresponding move. Los Angeles had an opening in its six-man rotation for Wednesday's game in Miami, but the Dodgers turned to Landon Knack to start rather than Sauer, who will be available in relief for the series finale.
- Kris Bryant COL DH
Rockies' Kris Bryant: Due for surgery
5h agoBryant (back) will undergo an ablation procedure Thursday to help aid in his recovery from a lumbar degenerative disc disease, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
An updated return timeline will likely come out after Bryant goes under the knife, though he will presumably need several weeks to recover before starting up his rehab. The 33-year-old has been on the injured list since mid-April and was slashing just .154/.195/.205 when healthy.
- Yandy Diaz TB DH
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Handling DH duties Wednesday
6h agoDiaz (hip) will serve as theRays' designated hitter and leadoff batter in Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Diaz exited Tuesday's 8-4 win early due to right hip tightness, but he downplayed the injury after the game and suggested he would be back in action Wednesday. His prediction appears to have come true, and he'll move up to the top of the order after having occupied the No. 3 spot in his previous two starts. The left-handed-hitting Chandler Simpson could continue to bat leadoff against right-handed pitching, but Diaz looks like he'll be the Rays' preferred table setter versus lefties such as the Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez.
- Jorge Polanco SEA DH
Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Back at DH spot Wednesday
8h agoPolanco will serve as theMariners' designated hitter and No. 2 batter in Wednesday's game against the Athletics.
In Tuesday's 5-3 win, Polanco drew a start at second base, which marked his first start in the infield since April 4. Polanco had been limited to DH duties for the past month while managing a side injury that affects his throwing and inhibits him when he bats from the right side of the plate, but his usage at the keystone offers hope that he may be nearing the finish line in his recovery. The Mariners plan to have Polanco serve as their everyday third baseman once the injury is fully behind him, but he may have started at second base Tuesday due to the shorter throws that he would need to make at the position.
- Starling Marte NYM DH
Mets' Starling Marte: Grabbing seat
9h agoMarte is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Arizona.
Marte is set to be theMets' primary designated hitter while Jesse Winker (oblique) is sidelined, but he'll get a breather in Wednesday's matinee. Brandon Nimmo will be the club's DH, while Jeff McNeil patrols left field.
- Yordan Alvarez HOU DH
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Dealing with muscle strain in hand
10h agoAstros manager Joe Espada said Wednesday thatAlvarez has been diagnosed with a muscle strain on the top of his right hand and is hoping to be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible May 13, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Alvarez needs a bit of rest, but the goal is for him to rejoin the Astros early next week for the second game of a three-game set against the Royals. Jose Altuve has made two starts at designated hitter and Yainer Diaz has been in the DH spot once since Alvarez was placed on the IL on Monday.
- Josh Bell WAS DH
Nationals' Josh Bell: Exiting starting nine
12h agoBell is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Guardians.
Bell returned to action in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader after missing the previous four contests with a groin issue. While Bell seems to be healthy now, theNationals are going with James Wood at designated hitter and Alex Call in left field for Wednesday's series finale.
