The heart ofRealm of X#1 lies within the Vanirs' belief in an age-old prophecy that the mutants' arrival will either bring prosperity or doom to Vanaheim. Grønbekk's knack for character dynamics shined as she addressed the power dynamics and individual struggles of the team members. When asked aboutMagik losing her powers, both physically and emotionally, Grønbekk assured that the character would still have a significant role in the series. "I love Magik and would not put her through this misery if we did not have a plan for her," said the author.

All Mutants are Vulnerable in Real of X

Grønbekk crafts moments of vulnerability, asCurse finds herself in moral dilemmas. "The consequences of which [Curse's vulnerabilities] could have disastrous outcomes not just for her, but for her fellow mutants and the realm itself." She also highlighted the friction within the team as a crucial narrative device, that developed characters who did not see eye-to-eye on everything, fueling the story's tension. "Especially given how they ended up in Vanaheim in the first place—it would be weird if the group were too harmonious." When asked why she included the Typhoid Mary, who has a villainous past, she said "Mary's emotional state will be pretty obvious to anyone who comes along on this journey!"

According to Grønbekk, setting the scene in Vanaheim was a strategic move, considering its rich history and the Vanir's bitterness post-Asgard's ancient conflict. The mutants' arrival also added layers of intrigue, with Vanir divided over their significance and intentions. "There are some other reasons why Vanaheim is the perfect setting for this story in particular, but I don't want to give too much away here!", she said. Grønbekk even hinted at the possibility ofMarvel Universe's other characters appearing in the series, stating, "I can't really go into details, but I would say there is a reasonable probability!"

Grønbekk's collaboration with artist Diógenes Neves brings Vanaheim to life. Neves' detailing and knack for showcasing emotions through on-paper action further amplify the storytelling experience. From Curse's powerful scenes toMary's enigmatic presence, the art remains faithful to the essence of the characters.
