Vincent D'Onofrio has reaffirmed his desire to join theDC Universe as a specific horror-tinged character. TheDaredevil: Born Again star, who plays fan-favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe villain Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, recently shared thatSwamp Thing would be the other character he'd like to play on the big or small screen.
Responding to a fan onX,D'Onofrio wrote that "Swamp Thing" would be the other character besides Wilson Fisk that he would want to play. This isn't the first time that the actor has expressed interest in playing Swamp Thing.Back in 2023, he retweeted afeature article from CBR by Nicholas Brooks — which made the case for why the actor should jump from the MCU to the DCU to play Alec Holland/Swamp Thing — and captioned it, "Love this." The retweet drove fans wild with speculation, especially once DC Studios head James Gunn liked D'Onofrio's post. A couple of days later, D'Onofrio posted a separate tweet, reading, "Damn, Now I can't get Alec Holland off my mind."
Sorry Kingpin, Another Low-Level Criminal Just Proved to Be Daredevil's Deadliest Enemy
Matt Murdock has finally been forced out of superhero retirement by a villain other than the Kingpin, suiting up once more on Daredevil: Born Again,
More recently, D'Onofrio remarked at a Q&A panel at the 2024 Dragon Con that he hasbeen a fan of Swamp Thing since he was a child, remarking that he always wanted to play him in a project. Created by writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson back in 1971 forHouse of Secrets #92, Swamp Thing was originally an idealistic scientist named Alec Holland, who was reborn as the creature made of vegetation that absorbed the scientist's memories, personality, and grief after an accident in his lab.
ASwamp Thing movie was announced by DC Studios in January 2023, as part of the opening slate for the DCU Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters. James Mangold, best known for directing the R-rated Wolverine solo movieLogan, is attached to write and directSwamp Thing. While plot details are unknown at this time, Gunn has described the project in the past as being the DCU's first true horror movie. Mangold has also teased that the film will be "just a standalone" feature, adding, "While I'm sureDC viewsSwamp Thing as a franchise, I would be viewing it as a very simple, clean, Gothic horror movie about this man/monster." He also described the project as "a kind of Frankenstein movie."

'Who Batman Is to Me': Todd McFarlane Names Star Trek Actor as Best Casting Choice for DCU's Batman
Comic book legend Todd McFarlane picks a Star Trek actor as his top choice for playing Batman in James Gunn's DCU.
What's Next for Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin in the MCU?
After making his debut as Kingpin in Netflix'sDaredevil, D'Onofrio has so far reprised the role in three follow-up projects:Hawkeye,Echo, andDaredevil: Born Again. He is confirmed to return as the villain inBorn Again Season 2, which is currently in production. However, beyond that, Marvel has not revealed where Kingpin could appear next, although D'Onofrio recently explained why fans shouldn't expect to see him on the big screen.
"I’m only usable for television shows…Not even a one-off Wilson Fisk movie. It’s all caught up in rights and stuff. I don’t know when that would work out or if it ever would work out at all," he explained to Josh Horowitz on theHappy Sad Confused podcast last week. This means that Kingpin would seemingly be off the table for anyAvengers orSpider-Man movies, much to the disappointment of the MCU fandom who have been itching to see Kingpin cross paths with Tom Holland's web-slinging hero.
Swamp Thing does not yet have a release date, whileDaredevil: Born Again drops its Season 1 finale on Tues., Mar. 15.
