Retirement

It’s never too early to start planning for retirement. Whether you have decades or days left in service, Office of Human Resources Management can answer your questions and help you, our valued CBP employees, prepare and apply to retire. Through theRetirement and Benefits Portal, all CBP employees have access to a one-stop shop to find information, submit a retirement application, monitor a retirement status, or access FAQs.

    The FERS retirement system became effective in 1987, and almost all new federal civilian employees hired after 1983 are automatically covered by this new system.

    The Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) originated in 1920 and has provided retirement, disability, and survivor benefits for most civilian employees in the federal government hired prior to December 31, 1983.
