Description

The Consortium of Scientific Partners on Biodiversity is a network of mostly national-level technical and scientific agencies with globally relevant contributions to the CBD and associated protocols. Its founding Memorandum of Understanding states that members will promote the effective implementation of the Convention and its Protocols through the organization of activities on policy, scientific and technical issues. Members share the below characteristics:
  • Scientifically/technically competent to address the Aichi Targets
  • Proven track record of contributing to the CBD and with other institutions and Parties at regional, sub-regional or global levels
  • Supported by and providing technical support to their respective national governments

CSP members’ contribution to the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets

Objectives

The Consortium of Scientific Partners contributes to the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and Aichi Biodiversity Targets.The MoU aims to ensure effective mainstreaming of biodiversity and the 2020 targets into international programmes, projects, and initiatives. These are achieved through capacity-building of developing countries, and promoting and offering information, tools, and services.

By September 2016, the following institutions have either signed on to the original Memorandum of Understanding or been invited by the Executive Secretary to join the CSP due to their exceptional capacity and track record in supporting the Convention. In addition, some have joined as observers.
