After a private church funeral, Lynn Redgrave was laid to rest in rural upstate New York on Saturday with family and friends gathered at her graveside.
The 67-year-old British actress died last Sunday at her home in Kent, Conn. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002.
After the funeral at First Congregational Church of Kent near Redgrave's home, the funeral procession drove across the state line. Redgrave was buried in St. Peter's Cemetery in Lithgow, N.Y. — the same cemetery where she and her family said goodbye to niece Natasha Richardson in March 2009.
Redgrave was buried in a private graveside service near her mother Rachel Kempson, who died in 2003.
Her older sister, actress Vanessa Redgrave, dressed entirely in white, was joined by her daughter, Joely Richardson, and her son-in-law Liam Neeson, Richardson's widower.
Redgrave's death came at a difficult time for the famous acting family. Richardson died tragically at the age of 45 after a ski accident in Quebec. And Redgrave's older brother Corin died last month from cancer.
Actor Brendan Fraser, Redgrave's co-star inGods and Monsters, told The Associated Press after the funeral that she helped him respect his craft.
"Lynn had a real quiet bliss about her, and enthusiasm," he added. "I think if I ever saw her sad, it was in a performance."
Born in London in 1943, Redgrave was the granddaughter of stage actors Roy Redgrave and Margaret Scudamore, and the youngest child of matinee idol Michael Redgrave and actress Kempson.
Her best-known film role was the title performance in the 1966Georgy Girl, for which she earned an Oscar nomination.
Redgrave also appeared on television — in shows, movies, miniseries and as a narrator and host — but she was most associated with stage work in London and New York.
She is survived by her children Ben, Pema and Annabel, and six grandchildren.
