Whether it is classic legislation on legal policy (e.g. family, copyright or criminal law) or current issues in consumer protection (e.g. the rights of railway passengers, banking practices or the security of contracts concluded via the Internet): the 38 members of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection discuss a wide range of topics affecting everyone in Germany, and help to draw up fundamental legal rules which regulate coexistence in society. The Committee’s work is increasingly dominated by EU legal and consumer protection policy, for neither online commerce nor crime stop at Germany’s borders. Furthermore, the Committee deliberates on how the GermanBundestag should respond to cases brought before the Federal Constitutional Court.
