Prix Renaudot, French literary prize awarded to the author of an outstanding original novel published during the previous year. Named forThéophraste Renaudot (1586?–1653), who foundedLa Gazette (laterLa Gazette de France), an influential weekly newspaper, the prize was established in 1925 and first awarded in 1926. Like thePrix Goncourt, with which it competes, the Prix Renaudot is awarded annually at a ceremony in a Parisian restaurant. Its winners have includedMichel del Castillo,Édouard Glissant,Michel Butor,Jean Cayrol,Louis Aragon,Louis-Ferdinand Céline, andMarcel Aymé.
