   Eddie Howe is addressing the media. Lots of questions to the Newcastle manager about Alexander Isak's absence and the race for the Champions League.

   Howe said Isak has had a scan on the groin issue that kept him out and cannot guarantee whether he will be fit to face Everton next Sunday,

   "I don't know at this moment in time," adds the Newcastle boss. "He felt pain after training and went for a scan. It depends a lot on how he reacts."

   Howe said Isak's injury was not a "surgery issue".

   On the race for the Champions League, he adds: "We're still in a strong position and it’s still in ourhands."

   Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC MOTD:"We were much better second half, we produced a game that suited us much more than the first half. Overall a good afternoon."

   On Declan Rice:"Especially in the last part of the season he's been exceptional. He's winning matches, scoring goals, stats better than last season and still immense room for improvement."

   On season overall:"We had a clear dream to deliver a trophy this season to our people. Unfortunately we haven't done it, understanding the circumstances we've been through. But you have to make sure that chasing a dream doesn't confuse you and allow you to see all the incredible things this team are doing. I've seen teams finishing 8th, 10th, 16th when they have smaller issues than what we have so you have to recognise that.

   "I see every day the problems we have had and the problems throughout the season. Today we had another three problems. It's been like that for 10 months not weeks, but we haven't collapsed - the mindset is so ingrained and it won't collapse."

   Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We came under pressure at the start of the second half and you need to ride that storm and we had. Declan Rice produces that spectacular finish from that range. We did everything we could to get a goal.

   "From our perspective, we got too passive and became a little bit sloppy on the ball. We'll learn from that. You do have times like that away from home.

   "We have to take all the positives from that first half performance. We looked strong. Nick [Pope] didn't have too much to do.

   "He's [Alexander Isak] got a bit of swelling in a muscle in his groin. He's only got seven days to get himself fit. Fingers crossed he can get there.

   "It's obviously great for everyone to watch and we have to do our job against Everton."

    Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live:"It was a really strong first half performance from us - we looked confident. I was really pleased, bar the last action, the finishing was a bit off.

    "I have to say David Raya played well."

    "I can't ask anymore of the players, tough place to come. We probably weren't our best in the second half and that's what's probably has cost us the game."

    On Alexander Isak's injury ruling him out of the final game of the season: "It is too early to say. It is a strange one, as he felt it after training. Got a scan this morning to see what the damage was. Hopefully, he will be available, but we don't know."

    On Champions League qualification:"Halfway through the season we weren't in a great position.

    "We worked hard to get here. I had the feeling it would go right to the end. It's an incredibly tight race. We have one more game to execute what we need."

    On playing at home in the last game of the season:"We love playing at home. It's a really great atmosphere. We don't want to get ahead of ourselves and make it too emotional.

    "We need to give our best and try and win."

    "Really good. Very pleased with the performance bar the last action, we created chances but our general play was strong. We were competitive, good with the ball. Really pleased with majority of first half but we became a bit too passive in second half. We discovered that quickly after and they scored so that's frustrating.

    "When you're away you have moments where you lose control, the crowd get into the game and whatever solidity you had can go. We've been good at riding that storm recently, it felt like we were going to do that again and it took a special finish from Declan Rice to break us down. It was the feeling of pressure rather than them creating chances and if we could've withstood that we would've gone on to do something. But we didn't.

    "It was one of our strongest away performances but you have to score and we didn't. Only got ourselves to blame for that and some good saves from their keeper. Individual players played well and we take that into next week.

    "You want it to be in your own hands. We back ourselves at home and under pressure but there will be all the build-up to the game which will be big, we have to detach ourselves from that. The performance today was strong and we have to take that confidence into next week."

    On Alexander Isak injury: "I don't know. It's too early to make an assessment, I think he has a chance, I don't know about that.

    "He had a scan this morning, felt a bit of stiffness last night, didn't feel anything during training. The scan showed some swelling so we took him out of the game and hopefully he can be ready for next week."

    The problem with this Arsenal team is, I'm trying to back them up and say they're a good team but you've got to win something. It's not easy.

    Every time it gets to the latter stages they go. And I know people say they were ruthless last year and they just put their foot wrong once against Villa, but they did put their foot wrong. And Man City went perfect.

We went so hard in the Champions League our form dropped in the Premier League. Newcastle are such an in-form side and the manager's message was clear, take it personal. We grew into the game and we showed that grit and three points at home, great way to end the league at home.

    "We have to be at the level every week, we had such a good chance in the Champions League we had momentum with that and the league slipped away a few weeks ago. Today to win was massive and Newcastle are such a good side.

    "About time I started scoring frequently. I liked that finish a lot, whipping across the keeper. Special moment for me."

    Season overall: "Difficult. After coming so close in the league last year, we were poor this year by our standards. To go out of every cup competition - with the players and the manager we've got - we need to be competing for titles and trophies, we can't take anything for granted. We're probably going to lose a few players so we need to sign more players. We'll strengthen over the summer. We're going to come back more hungry and stronger wanting to win something for this club."

    Losing one nil at Arsenal in a tussle for second with key injuries and a squad that is still nearly half from Mike Ashley’s era is not the worst thing for Newcastle. Defeats against teams we should be beating at home. Fulham, West Ham, Bournemouth are the games that we need to improve on. We’ll beat Everton next week and strengthen in the summer. Eddie Howe is still the best manager in the world.
