Goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith played in his third consecutive goalless draw in the Championship for Sheffield Wednesday
Promotion-chasing Middlesbrough were held to a goalless draw by Sheffield Wednesday at the Riverside.
Boro dominated the game, having seven shots on target to Wednesday's one, but could not get past Joe Wildsmith.
Ben Gibson hit the inside of the post from a set piece, while Patrick Bamford, Ryan Shotton and Daniel Ayala all also went close with headers.
Stuart Downing volleyed narrowly wide and Ayala bounced a late header over but Wednesday held on for a point.
Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has now drawn all three of his Championship games 0-0 since his appointment as manager earlier this month, although he has won two FA Cup fixtures.
His side were on the back foot throughout at the Riverside, with Wildsmith forced into making a good save from Bamford's back-post header.
Tony Pulis' side threatened from set pieces but Gibson's header rolled along the goal line after striking the post and Wednesday survived two goalmouth scrambles.
Boro stay eighth, three points off the play-off places, while the Owls move up a place to 16th despite not having recorded a league win since 26 December.
Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis told BBC Tees:
"We created enough opportunities and enough chances to win the game. I thought at times we played some good football even when we were chasing the game.
"The club has invested a lot of money in the front line and we need them to come to the party.
"Everybody has got to understand that if you don't score goals, whether they're created for you or whether they can create their own opportunities, our aspirations are not going to be what we want them to be."
Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"After 90 minutes we must say it was a difficult game for us.
"In the second half, Middlesbrough were stronger than us. We lost the ball too fast and we had to do more defending.
"In our situation, we are always happy when we can play away and take one point. In the first half what I saw was very good, but in the second half we were losing the ball too fast."
