Clive Myrie, the BBC's Europe correspondent based in Brussels, is joining theBBC News channel as a presenter.

In addition to presenting from the studio, Clive will also present some of the bigger stories on location. He will start his new role in July 2009.

Clive said: "Over the last few years I've watched the News Channel go from strength to strength, so for me to now join its ranks as a presenter is fantastic.

"I know I'll be working with a great team on a network that's at the heart of BBC journalism, and the place more and more Britons turn to for breaking news. It's an exciting opportunity and I can't wait to get stuck in."

Clive has reported from more than 50 countries on some of the most important events of the past decade.

These include the impeachment of President Clinton, the war in Kosovo, the Palestinian Intifada and the fall of the Taleban in Afghanistan. During the Iraq war of 2003 he was "embedded" with the Royal Marines.

Kevin Bakhurst, Controller, BBC News Channel, said: "Clive brings a wealth of experience to the BBC News channel as one of the BBC's most experienced Foreign Correspondents.

"He has covered an extraordinary range of stories, from the invasion of Iraq to the inauguration of President Obama. And, alongside his journalism, Clive brings a real wit and energy to the role. I'm absolutely delighted that he's joining our formidable line-up of presenting talent."

Clive first joined the BBC in 1988 as a reporter for BBC Radio Bristol. After a year with Independent Radio News, he returned to the BBC to work in regional journalism.

He joined BBC network news in 1992 as a correspondent based in London, before his first overseas posting to Japan in 1996. He has also reported from Washington and Los Angeles and spent four years as Asia Correspondent based in Singapore.

Clive has won a number of awards, including a Golden Nymph at the Monte Carlo Television Festival (2003) for his coverage of the Iraq war and a Screen Nations Award for Services to Broadcast Journalism (2003). He has also been nominated twice for the Bayeaux War Correspondents Award (2001 and 2003) and for a BAFTA Award (2000), as part of the BBC team covering the floods in Mozambique.

Born in Bolton, Greater Manchester, Clive was educated at Hayward Grammar School and graduated with an Honours degree in Law from the University of Sussex in 1985.
