The collision of elements during the separation of the carrierrocket’s first and second stages is the primary cause of theSoyuz-FG booster’s abortive launch, Roscosmos Executive Directorfor Manned Flights Sergei Krikalyov said on Friday,TASS reports.

"There are no final versions but the primary cause isunderstandable and is related to the collision of a side elementmaking part of the first stage. A collision occurred during theseparation of the first and second stages," the Roscosmos officialsaid.

"A deviation from the standard trajectory occurred andapparently the lower part of the second stage disintegrated. Therocket stopped its normal flight and after that the automaticsystem did its work," Krikalyov said.

An element of the booster’s first stage collided with the secondstage, Krikalyov said.

"This could have been caused by the failure of the system of thenormal separation, which should have been activated. We willanalyze the causes in detail," the Roscosmos official said.

The dates of launches of a cargo spacecraft Progress MS to theInternational Space Station may be revised following the failure ofthe Soyuz-FG rocket. "Possibly, we may revise the date of launchingthe next cargo spacecraft. Possibly, we will speed up the launch ofthe next Soyuz. Different versions of the program are beingconsidered," Krikalyov said.

The results of the government probe into the causes of theSoyuz-FG rocket’s failure will be available later this month, afterOctober 20.

"The panel of inquiry got down to work yesterday. The resultsare expected after October 20. The first components found inKazakhstan’s steppe will help find out what happened. The necessarymeasures will be taken afterwards and flights will be continued,"Krikalyov said.

He added that all rockets of this class will be authorized foruse again only when the causes of the failure were clear.
