Flora Malesiana – Fagaceae

[Updated June 2025] Welcome! These pages are the project site for the new Flora Malesiana – edition Fagaceae. The most recent taxonomic treatment for Fagaceae in Malesia was published in 1972, and was only illustrated with a small number of pen drawings and black and white photographs. At the time, the circumscription of the Family still included the genus Nothofagus, which today is recognized as a distinct family. Since then, massive economical changes (and their ecological consequences) have reshaped biological communities in tropical Asia. In addition, much more accurate biogeographical and botanical knowledge on the Asian tropical biome has been accumulated, as well as the publication of a large number of new species. To provide a full taxonomic revision and compile a fully illustrated treatment, a major inventory and revision of existing collections is being carried out by Dr Joeri Sergej Strijk. The completely reworked taxonomic treatment is slated for in 2026. All species information and a finalized checklist will be released here below in 2025.
