The goal of this project is to provide a small-scale, climate-dependent forecast for feed-in power and consumption and, as a result, an assessment of the compatibility of the calculated loads and services with the components and lines installed in the distribution network. In a further step, the measures to be taken are then to be simulated and evaluated with an increased feed load or consumption. In the end, a forecasting and simulation system is to be developed, which allows network operators to optimise operation in distribution networks.

Project description

Due to the shift of power production from highly centralised power plants to decentralised power production with renewable energy, the role of local distribution networks has changed. Originally, these networks were designed to distribute electric power from a centralised source to consumers. However, nowadays, the increasing number of climate-dependent decentralised energy production systems connected to local distribution networks, such as photovoltaics, affect the network stability. Thus, network operators need decision support methodology in order to cope with the network uncertainty. As a central part of the decision support system, climate-dependent forecast for feed-in power is required with high spatial resolution. In this project, a method for the prediction of feed-in power production from photovoltaics, based on georeferenced power production and meteorological data is developed.

In a separate work package, the standard last profile for power consumption is being studied and analysed over the course of different seasons and on daily basis. Afterwards, correlations are being built between the power consumption and various meteorological factors, in order to study the impact of these different meteorological factors.

The VerNet-LEM project provides:

  • Forecasting algorithm for the power production and consumption
  • Decision support system for comparing the impact of different regulatory measures using the General Indicator Model (GIM)
  • Formalisation of individual regulatory measures and creation of functional relationships using the Indicator Modelling framework and GIM
