Local Election Results 2010

Exeter

One-third of council up for election.

Note:— Due to local government reorganisation in which Exeter was to become a unitary council, this election was originally cancelled and the terms of the councillors elected in 2006 were extended to 2011. Following a High Court ruling in July 2010 that this decision was unlawful, the seats elected in 2006 became vacant. As a result, the 2010 local elections in Exeter were held on 9 September. However, a by-election had previously been held in Pennsylvania ward on 6 May 2010, the day on which the previous councillor's term would have ended had it not been for the extension; following the High Court ruling the winner of that by-election was confirmed in office for a full four-year term.

No elections on 9 September in Pennsylvania (as above), St James, St Leonard's, St Loyes or St Thomas. The election in Topsham on 9 September was a by-election.
