This is a WOOC report about the impact of rape and other forms of sexual violence on women’s lives. There are two main categories of sexual violence: those in which the perpetrator is a stranger and those in which the perpetrator is known to the victim. In Hungary, the attackers re most often spouses, boyfriends, friends, schoolmates, colleagues, former lovers or partners of the victims. The government and the criminal justice system have yet to tackle the widespread prejudices that prevent women who have been raped or subjected to other forms of sexual violence from obtaining justice or redress.
