Executions of persons who were children at the time of the offence 1990 – 2024

The use of the death penalty for crimes committed by people younger than 18 is prohibited under international human rights law, yet some countries still execute persons who were convicted as a child. Such executions call into question the commitment of the executing states to respect international law, and in particular, children’s human rights. Since 1990 Amnesty International has documented 176 executions of persons who were children at the time of the offence for which they had been convicted in 11 countries.
