Great lessons in resilience and problem-solving -- just get passed the $&*(#%^
Rented it last night after arm twisting. Was concerned about the PG13 but then read up that (aside from a naked butt) it was mostly language (an early round of "S--T" worthy of a South Park counter and a few f bombs which my son said went beyond the "13"). I told him if he was stranded on Mars, he could curse too but until then, no. This could've gotten a PG without that so I dinged a star. It's full of problem solving and resilience which were great lessons for my "six going on sixteen" year old who tried to follow along with his own ideas. Highly recommend.EDITED TO ADD: Also, women and diverse characters in intellectual and pivotal roles (shame that this is still rare enough to have to highlight).

- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2025If you’re a planetary scientist then you’ll notice some inaccuracies but for most people it’s easy enough to suspend your disbelief long enough to enjoy this movie. For most movies I wait for it to become available on one of my streaming services but this one was stubborn in that regard and I had been waiting years to see it.
I really enjoyed it. - Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2025Wife heard about this movie and got to watch it without me. She suggested we watch it together. We are not Matt fans, but the movie was really good. I didn't want to see a naked bum, but in context of the movie they were showing how starving Damon was when he really lived on Mars. I have to say that it was really good. Keep you on the edge of your seat. Spoiler alert...everyone dies in the end, but not in this movie.

Many good things to say, but I want to really say I appreciate that there was not one member of the crew that had a personal axe to grind. Professionalism abounded.

I enjoyed watching this movie a great deal and learned a lot about the many issues involved in space travel and the potentiality of a journey to another planet. I definitely recommend the DVD and the seller.

Die Langfassung beinhaltet interessante Neuerungen, die meiner Meinung nach der Handlung gut tun.
Das Bild ist bombastisch und wird von vielen Videomagazinen als Referenz für das Testen von Fernsehern und Playern verwendet.

Questo straordinario film diretto da Ridley Scott è, come sicuramente saprete, tratto dall'ancor più straordinario libro di Andy Weir, un'avventura pazzesca sul suolo di marte che tiene incollati alle pagine dall'inzio alla fine. Il film è una fedele rappresentazione in immagini del libro, ovviamente con molti tagli per permetterne l'adattamento alle tempistiche dei lungometraggi.
Tutto è curato nei minimi dettagli, anche Matt Damon è superlativo nell'interpretare il protagonista.
Sarebbe stato ancora più bello se ci si fosse soffermati un pochino di più sul lato "scientifico" dello sviluppo degli eventi e delle decisioni prese dal personaggio di Mark Watney, come accade nel libro, ma come detto si rischiava di sforare nelle tempistiche, sarebbe stato necessario un film da 4 o 5 ore almeno!
Grande lavoro anche per la qualità video del film: davvero straordinaria, un livello di definizione, pulizia, risoluzione delle immagini pazzesco, un orgasmo per gli occhi. Visto su un TV Sony 4K 2015, è davvero uno spettacolo, con l'upscaling sembra davvero di essere oltre il "semplice" Full HD avvicinandosi sensibilmente all'Ultra HD. sarà un must-have quando uscirà in Blu-Ray 4K anche da noi.
Effetti speciali perfetti, sia le scene sul suolo di marte che nello spazio sono davvero un godimento.
L'edizione limitata è poi molto buona: custodia steelbook e presenza di due dischi blu-ray, uno per il 3D e uno per il 2D, contenenti anche diversi contenuti extra. Peccato solo che la custodia non riporti alcuna scritta, né sul fronte, né sul retro, né sul fianco, lasciando solo la grafica col volto di Matt Damon nella tuta spaziale. Almeno sul fianco sarebbe stato saggio inserire il titolo del film, per identificarlo facilmente quando riposto assieme agli altri Blu-Ray. è solo presente un foglio con le informazioni del blu-ray (in pratica la copertina stampata del retro di un normale blu-ray) che comunque stona con la steelbook ma che è facilmente removibile.
