How to use the adapter with Kindle Oasis (with pictures)
After reading through the reviews, I thought a few photos would help explain how to use this device. Tap once on the screen to select the settings (or whatever you're interested in), then quickly doubletap to enter into your selection. As can be seen in the photos, once you enter into the settings, an additional symbol appears -- that of the VoiceView settings, which allows you to control the speed and volume. Once you're ready for the adapter to read the text to you, simply go back to your eBook and swipe down with two fingers. As has been mentioned in a previous review, to get this adapter to work with the Kindle Oasis (at least the one I own), the cover must be attached; it will not work without it. I hope my review will help; I know that without the reviews I read here, I would've had a much harder time getting the adapter to work properly. So thank you to all the reviewers.

It took me 2 tries because the first adapter I received didn't work, but the second works great! I'm still learning the quirks of using it but it does exactly what I was looking for, which is to replace my old kindle touch that I kept around for the TTS. I have a kindle voyage and sometimes I just need to keep reading a book on my way home, now I can listen while driving. Thanks, Amazon!

This audio adapter broke my kindle. The dongle is much too heavy to hang off the paperwhite's usb port, which is not as sturdy as it could be. the lateral torque to which the kindle port was subjected, caused it to come unset making it nearly impossible to create a connection for any purpose: audio or just simple charging.

I am visually impaired . My understanding was that this adapter with the paperwhite kindle would enable me to listen to some of my ebooks since it is difficult for me to read anymore . If the screen is accidentally touched everything stops and you must try to go back to the main screen and find the right place to begin again. It's frustrating and hard to see, especially with poor vision. I hope the product is improved because I love to read.

So before I even start this, I'm going to say I'm totally blind. This cable isn't meant for sighted people who are lazy to have text to speech, and the fact that so many tried that is both rude and annoying. Next, this is amazing! When used properly, it enables Voice View on the Kindle. Voice View is Amazon's screen reader, that is better than any other! It allows me to set up my kindle using headphones or a speaker to hear the voice. It also allows me to navigate the device, use all of its functions, and read books. Any book. This is the coolest thing ever! I'm a blind English teacher and now I have a way to incorporate kindles in to my work. I can't believe I didn't know this adapter existed sooner! Thanks, Amazon, for caring about accessibility, and for making the written word accessible to everyone!

TLDR: There is a major design flaw with Kindle USB jacks, and it renders this device useless.

This review is for the Kindle Audio Adapter connected to the 6" Paperwhite. I bought both brand just nine months ago and use both for an hour or more each day. As of today, I can no longer get the audio adapter to work, despite my best efforts to nurse it along. I have had kindles for years, and I know that the USB jack on my older models always failed before the rest of the device, so I tried very hard to be extremely gentle and careful with this one. It has never been dropped, has always been in a protective case, and I made sure I didn't knock the USB area around when anything was plugged into it. Despite my caution, within the first month the USB jack was already wobbly.

Buyer beware: when the Kindle Audio Adapter wobbles, even if it is only for a split second, the Kindle immediately goes to its screen saver and stops reading text-to-speech. As the crappy jack loosens, this interrupts your reading constantly, and makes it difficult to follow along. Each time this happens, you must employ a combination of prayer and voodoo magic to reseat the Adapter in the wobbly USB jack, then navigate back into your book from the screen saver. This is not exactly a picnic because the navigation gestures aren't the easiest to execute unless you are sitting still and have nothing else in your hands. Riding a bus? Walking outdoors? Drinking a soda? Forget it.

This wobbling port has been a problem with every single one of my Kindles (this is my fifth), even when the port was only for charging. I'm extremely frustrated that Amazon has not attempted to fix it, especially since there isn't a headphone jack, and this is the only way to read via text-to-speech on this device. In a nutshell: this adapter isn't a reliable solution if you need to use text-to-speech. The problem is with the jack, not the adapter, but together they are designed to fail.

I don't want to keep buying these, but Amazon has me locked in because they co-own all of my books.

To Amazon: Thanks, all-powerful mega-corporation worth billions of dollars, for duping me into this mess and knowingly turning out a product which is designed with a 1-year lifespan at best. Please, for the love of all that is holy, get some better soldering tools, or use some type of adhesive to shore up the connection between this USB jack and the motherboard in the Kindle. I am at your mercy, and am begging you for a better solution.

Great to have a Kindle that reads to you my poor 2007 Kindle died so had to get a new one the 2007 Kindle is a little easier to use on speech mode this one is fine but you only have the choice of a female voice I prefer a male voice reading back to me I have quite a lot of sight left so find it not too hard to use I would think that if you have no sight at all it could be a bit of a problem the adaptor only works with the new Paperwhite and I don't think it is sold separately but very happy with my new Kindle and the fact that it has a backlight so if I decide to read it it is easier to read in bed light
