- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2018Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis book gives a succinct survey of the world of video game music, its history, and its evolution through decades of video game music analysis. Because there is so much information that is covered, certain topics are brief, but for an "Introduction" the book serves its purpose quite well. I really enjoyed learning particularly about the "old school" ways of creating music and thought those portions rather awe-inspiring. I am a classically trained musician, but I do believe that this book would serve a non-musician's intrigues just fine. Even the theory section remains within the confines of musical form and does not require a musician's knowledge of the subject.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in video game music. I'd also suggest that you not try to rush through the reading of this and enjoy listening to the musical examples expertly suggested by the author.
