The Silurian Gift is the latest Doctor Who novel in the series of Quick Reads and is as good as the other stories in the series. A fast moving story which is written in clear, large print and easy on the eyes. It is also suitable as a book to read to children or to grab a chapter when there are a few minutes spare. The story, written by Mike Tucker, is about a megalomaniac who has discovered a Silurian base and is exploiting them by offering their Fire Ice to Mankind as an alternate source of energy. Enter the Doctor...
But, fans of classic Doctor Who will recall that the Silurians have underwater cousins and genetically engineered pets! So...
For a mere pound coin, this book is worth every penny and I can't wait to see who the alien foe might be in 2014... the Ice Warriors from Mars, perhaps?

Latest Doctor Who quick reads novel. Quick reads are a range of books designed to get those who don't read very often - or at all - to try to get into the habit. They're short self contained books that run for around one hundred pages. Have clear prose. And large print.

Most year's releases of quick reads have seen a Doctor Who story amongst them, and this is the latest.

It features the Eleventh Doctor. Travelling on his own.

It runs for ninety nine pages and is divided into fourteen chapters.

The story sees the Doctor investigating when a businessman announces that he has the answer to the world energy crisis. A new source of energy called Fire-Ice. The Doctor travels amongst a party of visitors who go to a south pole refinery where it's being produced.

He finds that something is stalking the place. For a species that the Doctor has met before are nearby. And a battle for the future of the planet is about to commence.

As with the usual Silurian stories, this one has a lot of moral questions for the characters to consider. Nobody on either side of the conflict is necessarily in the wrong. But the choices they make might just be. And the Doctor is caught up in the middle of it, trying to find a solution that will please both sides.

This uses the medium of the printed word very well, because it includes a few creatures and some big set pieces that might be beyond the budget or the visuals of the tv show. These are done very well. There are some moments and appearances that will please Doctor Who fans.

As with many solo Doctor stories, he picks up a temporary companion for the duration of it. This is Lizzie, a girl who has her own reasons for being there. And who works well as a character because she allows the story to put all the moral issues across.

It's a short and easy read. It features Silurians. A perfectly characterised Eleventh Doctor. And it's a cheap purchase also. So it's well worth a look. Whether you read a lot. Or hardly ever.

Worth a read for 90p! Certainly not my favourite Doc Who book, but considering its limited length a decent story.

Although it is still a fantastic read and only took me around two hours of solid reading so is nice and short but still packed full of fun! I give this book ten out of ten!!!!!!!!!!

Author Mike Tucker brings us a tale of the Doctor as he visits Antarctica for a special presentation from the company called PelCorp. What PelCorp has done has found a new fuel scores that would change the energy industry. But as the Doctor investigates he finds out that the fuel comes from the Silurians who are working with the PelCorp but not of their own free will. The Silurians have their sleeping population being held hostage by the private armed forces of PelCorp. Plus the man running the company decided that it would be best to kill the daughter of the lead Silurian scientist. The thing is he didn't she survived and is bringing havoc down on the base in order to free her people from the apes that have them. This is a great quick read and I highly recommend it for all Doctor Who fans.

Nach "Magic of the angels" meine zweite Quick Reads Geschichte des 11. Doctors. Wirklich sehr spannend und unterhaltsam wie eine echte TV Episode. Sehr empfehlenswert für jeden Doctor Who Fan!

This reminds me of the old Target Dr Who novelisations. It is clear, easy to read, and to the point. It is briefer than them, slightly too brief. Therefore, I have given it 4 stars. But I'll read more of them.
