ETSI

ETSI stands for theEuropean Telecommunications Standards Institute, a non-profit group officially recognized by the European Union as a European Standards Organization. The group provides globally-applicable standards forInformation and Communications Technologies (ICT) for a range of technologies that include fixed (wired) technology, mobile communication technology, radio technology, converged, broadcast technology, and of course, the Internet.

It says that it has 766 ETSI member organizations in 63 different countries on 5 continents worldwide. In Europe, ETSI is the recognized regional standards body dealing with telecommunications, broadcasting and other electronic communications networks and services, and it produces standards and specifications supporting EU and EFTA policy issues. ETSI is driving standards work onNext Generation Networks and is at the epicenter of development work on common IMSLong Term Evolution (LTE) and SAE (System Architecture Equipment).

It promotes work on the standards through its Technical CommitteeTISPAN and its partnership with the3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
