Donald Trump won by 3.3% over Joe Biden in 2020. This is notable for two reasons. First, Florida was the only battleground state where Donald Trump expanded his winning margin from 2016. That year, he won by 1.2%. Second, Florida voters did not side with the overall presidential election winner for only the second time in the past 15 elections.
Every election since 2000 has been decided by a winning margin of 5% or less. Despite that, Florida is no longer perceived as a true battleground, and money hasnot flowed into the state for the presidential election.
Polling has often been within the margin of error, but almost all of it shows Trump with a small lead.
Sen. Rick Scott is seeking reelection to a second term. He won by the narrowest of margins over Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in 2018.
Democrats have not had much success in statewide races since then, and most forecasters have Scott favored. That said, polling is not indicative of a safe race. While Scott has led in each poll this year, most of the recent ones have Scott ahead by 3-5%, near the margin of error.
