Instance portal
Aninstance portal is the sparkling field that marks the entrance to aninstance.
The color of the portal indicates the type of instance:
Instance Portal:Group (5 or less)
Instance Portal:Raid (10 or more, on a raid reset timer)
Instance Portal:PvP Battlezone (battleground). These portals are no longer functional with the addition ofbattlemasters at the entrances.- Instance Portal: Transit. Currently, the only such portals are theDeeprun Tram entrances, the portal between theGhostlands and theEastern Plaguelands, and the portals to the bases inside theBattle for Mount Hyjal instance. BeforePatch 3.0.2, the officers' lounges inStormwind andOrgrimmar were also behind white portals.
- Instance Portal: all instances inOutland,Northrend, theCaverns of Time, theMagisters' Terrace, those introduced withCataclysm andMists of Pandaria (plus theDeadmines andShadowfang Keep) are of this color. Indicates that the instance has aHeroic mode available.
- Skull with Instance Portal: Notifies the player that the 5-player instance is on Heroic mode.
- Skull with Instance Portal: Notifies the player that the raid instance is on Heroic mode. Only available toTrial of the Crusader,Icecrown Citadel,Ruby Sanctum,Cataclysm andMist of Pandaria raids.
