Dun Modr (pronounced [dʌn modrə]) is a fortified middle-sizeddwarvencity[1] that sits along the road just south ofThandol Span, in the north of theWetlands. It was occupied byDark Iron dwarves, which claimed the fallen city as their own. It was eventually recaptured byThargas Anvilmar ofIronforge.
The city contains ablacksmith shop and aninn-brewery.
History[]
Second War[]

Dun Modr has traditionally been of a major strategic point of importance for controlling the region. During theSecond War it fell to theOrcish Horde, who built an outpost nestled near the ruins of the ancient dwarven city. The outpost had repeatedly beaten backAlliance troops while raiding the surrounding farmlands,[1] and it was was a vital staging area for Horde troops.[2]
A major battle was eventually fought to retake Dun Modr from the Horde. Alliance forces struck from the nearby island citadel ofTol Barad,[1] their taskforce ofStromgarde warriors laying siege and capturing theorcish outpost.[2] They forced the orcs into a southwards retreat to their secondary outpost atDun Algaz.[3] The Horde forces ultimately made a counter-attack, retaking Dun Modr and even bringing their forces to bear against Tol Barad itself.[1]
When the Horde lost thebattle for Capital City,Anduin Lothar pushed them back intoKhaz Modan through the Thandol Span. After the war, the city remained under the Alliance's control.[4]

WhileIronforge soldiers gave their lives in far off territories in the name of theAlliance, the dwarven lands fell prey to the evil deeds of theDark Iron dwarves. They laid waste to the Thandol Span, and southern Dun Modr fell soon after.[5] The Dark Irons were led by a powerful warlock namedBalgaras the Foul.
Cataclysm[]

After theCataclysm, it was revealed that the Dark Iron dwarves of Dun Modr were, in fact, loyal members of theTwilight's Hammer.[6]Thargas Anvilmar led Alliance heroes in driving them out, retaking Dun Modr for Ironforge.[7]
