There are not many companies, in any business, that last for more than two centuries, and it says something about the role the Guardian plays in the world that it has got this far. It’s because we have principles, we have philosophy, we have values.
Katharine VinerEditor-in-chief
We aspire to an open, supportive and inclusive culture, and respect all differences in all people, which makes the Guardian a good place to work for everyone.
Anna BatesonChief executive officer

The Guardian is a global news organisation delivering fearless investigative journalism that is rigorously committed to the truth.

Our colleagues are united under one shared mission: that we are open to all, funded by many, and beholden to no one. We keep our reporting free for all, because we believe that everyone has the right to the truth about events shaping the world.

We are reporters, podcasters, data analysts, product designers, researchers, marketers and much more. And we are a truly global organisation. No matter our job roles and responsibilities, we all help to deliver the important stories to our readers, wherever they are in the world.

Global offices

With offices in the UK, Australia and the US, and with correspondents based all over the world, Guardian News & Media is a truly international organisation. The UK has a daily newspaper, as well as digital editions, while the US and Australia digital editions cover local and international news for an online, global audience.

My favourite thing about working at the Guardian is the feeling that I can effect real change as an individual – that I’m not just another cog in the machine. As an introvert, as well as a practising Muslim, I can honestly say that the Guardian feels like home.

I really value being part of an organisation where colleagues are warm and supportive, and open discussion is encouraged. I feel respected and heard in the newsroom.

Our commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion takes many forms across the business – in our editorial content as well as our commercial teams. We are committed to reducing our gender and ethnicity pay gaps, making progress on representation targets and celebrating differences in all our colleagues while driving positive change. Since 2017, our internal forums and staff groups have helped to champion everyday inclusion and build a supportive open culture. In 2023, we conducted our first disability smart benchmark – and in 2024 we entered the social mobility employer index, which encourages us to continually expand and evolve areas of focus across our diversity, equality and inclusion strategy.

The Guardian’s commitment to work/life balance is the best I’ve witnessed. I think this comes from senior management modelling a good example of true balance while also championing hobbies.

The Guardian is the first workplace in which I feel totally myself, especially as a professional who is part of the LGBTQ+ community. I find my day-to-day work more meaningful, our efforts are for the right reasons, and I feel at home, as my colleagues are progressive, like-minded individuals.

As well as producing award-winning environmental journalism, the Guardian has set ambitious targets for reducing our own environmental impact. We have committed to cutting our greenhouse gas emissions by two thirds by 2030, in 2019 we became a certified B Corp, and in 2023 we conducted our first ever biodiversity audit.
