Great theory. For me it’s a combination of the following:
Perfect chemistry of players. They don’t all need to be great but they need to be a solid team.
Songwriting and image. You can write a good song but if you can’t put it across, goodnight.
Great bands never have bad drummers. As a drummer you can probably enlighten me on that front!
And for longevity? Share the publishing not the drugs.

Mr Birch. While I do agree with your theory I do feel that you have neglected to mention that the word plumber can, 9 times out of ten, be replaced with the word drummer, yourself being ghe exception that proves the rule. I myself speak from experience, although you really shouldn’t ask me to fix a leaky tap.
