Yo-Yo (also calledYo-yo andYoyo inKirby Super Star) is aCopy Ability that can be obtained by inhalingGim. It debuted inKirby Super Star and likewise, it was also a part of its remakeKirby Super Star Ultra. The ability allows Kirby to utilize a bright red yo-yo to smack around enemies from a safe distance, comparable to theBeam orWhip ability. The yo-yo can also pass through walls and floors, making it useful for activating switches or solving puzzles.

InKirby Super Star, Kirby is outfitted with a backwards ball cap when he acquires this ability. As ofKirby Star Allies, this outfit also comes with a bandage on Kirby's right cheek.

Trivia[edit]
- Kirby's backwards cap is more than likely a reference toEarthBound. In the game, various characters can equip yo-yos as weapons, and the main character, Ness, wears a similar cap. HAL had also done some work onEarthBound as well. This reference would carry forward in proper fashion with theESP ability.
- Additionally, the checkered background of the ability icon inKirby Super Star and its remake resemblesEarthBound's file select screen and character HP/PP boxes.
- In the Japanese version ofKirby Super Star, the ability's flavor text specifies that a yo-yo is an American toy, and suggests visiting a toy store if one is unfamiliar with them.[1]
- Oddly enough, in the originalKirby Super Star, this ability could be obtained by inhaling one of theCombo Cannon's cannonballs. This was changed inKirby Super Star Ultra, where Kirby receives theBomb ability from them instead.
- Break Spin is Kirby's dash attack inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl andSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. It also appears as Kirby's floor attack upon being tripped inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. Kirby does not use a yo-yo in either instance, however.
