Trivia[edit]
- Notably, when deciphering the new world script, the amusement park is called "Wonderia", not Wondaria. This may be because "Wondaria" is how "Wonderia" would sound like in Japanese, or it could also be because there isa defunct amusement park in Indonesia also named Wonderia.
- According to the figure text associated with certain elements of Wondaria, the theme park is based upon a children's book series about dogs who have adventures in outer space. The park is named after the author of these books; the two main mascots, Wondog and Wondy, are based on the dogs owned by the author. It's possible that Wondaria (in Japanese, ワンダリアwandaria) is meant to be a pun on ワンワンwan-wan, the sound of a dog's bark in Japanese.
- According to an interview with the developers, Wondaria is supposed to have been a famous theme park in thenew world, but it also has elements of smaller, rural amusement parks. Each designer of the game had a different idea of what an "amusement park" should be, so they decided to combine aspects of different kinds of amusement parks from around the world, as a way to evoke dreamlike childhood memories.[2]
- Wondaria's hub-and-spokes-based map and several of its attractions (such as the raceway, haunted house, and night-time parade) are reminiscent of the variousDisney theme parks, particularlyDisneyland. The music forThe Wondaria Dream Parade is very similar to the"Baroque Hoedown", which is the theme song for theMain Street Electrical Parade. Additionally, Wondog and Wondy (the park mascots) bring to mindMickey andMinnie Mouse, given that they are pre-existing characters who formed the basis for the park.
